5Dayne Avery is well on his way!  Sep 19, 2008
By C. A. Williams
Upon receiving this book, it took me roughly two days to finish. Given a very hectic life, which requires much reading and writing, this is a testament to how intellectually enticing this book was to read. Honestly, I am usually not interested in this type of fiction, yet it hijacked my litetary senses from page one. The honesty and vivid description of mistakes of the heart and love lost, real or imagined, was truly captivating. Moreover, Mr. Avery is able to encapsulate, in his own way, the all too familiar experience of young black men struggling to confront sexuality and familial expectations.

Mr. Avery has proven himself a peer among up and coming writers of this genre.

I am off to read Details, Mr. Avery's latest installment...

4Pretty good for his first novel...  Sep 14, 2007
By I Stay in the Gray Area "I Stay in the Gray Area"
This book, I think, has a lot of potential, as does the author. It reads as though you are experiencing what the characters are feeling. From the abuse that is experienced through the father, to the love, the betrayal, and ultimately the sorrow, i think all too many of us have a story way too familiar to this one to not give it all the credit that it is due. For this being his first novel, it was actually a pretty good job and i am awaiting his next one.

5An excellent human story  May 22, 2006
By S. Gadingan "Sheanla"
I decided to take a chance on this book and I was not disappointed. It was incredible in a heartbreaking, eye puffing, noise running sort of way. Dayne Avery certainly did a good job of depicting a story that was both believable and powerful that it had me by the first chapter. I read this in one sitting because I could not put it down and the only time I did was when I had to eat. That was how captivating it was.

It was written in such a way that you just can't put it down. Even now I'm still a bit shocked as to how it ended. Although it was a good ending, if not heartbreaking, it leaves me wanting for more. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is not afraid to take a dose of reality through a well written novel.

4The Next Great Thing!  Mar 30, 2005
By Lee Hayes "Author of Passion Marks, A Deeper Blue & The Messiah"
Mr. Avery has definitely written a powerful and passionate novel that should be read by everyone. It is rare to find an author blessed with the gift of writing with a stylistic and nuanced technique so developed that the reader becomes a part of the story. There is a huge difference between telling a story and painting a picture and Mr. Avery is masterful at "showing" and not "telling."

I Wrote This Song is a MUST read. This novel deals with the gamut of human emotions and creates real characters with real issues that are treated with finesse and grace. Love is always a complicated and complex conundrum of emotions and Mr. Avery vividly shows the duality of love: its beauty as well as its uncanny ability to hurt. In the end, the heart will always love what it loves...

Mr. Avery makes me proud to be a writer. Don't miss out on I Wrote This Song.

Lee Hayes, author of Passion Marks.
