Powerful, haunting war story Feb 02, 2010
By Robert L. Reid

Steven Spruill's ICE MEN is a powerful and haunting war story (because I started reading the book during a busy period and thus could only read a chapter or so a day, I found myself thinking about, and rethinking about, the characters and the action in-between my reading time ... I don't remember the last time a book grabbed quite like that!) Spruill sets his scenes with vivid detail. I felt I truly was there on a hillside or a road in Korea, coming under enemy fire, in a MASH hospital trying to keep a wounded GI alive, etc. Truly, an exciting and memorable book.

Fantasic book, another great Spruill novel. Jul 04, 2011
By Robert I've read most of Steve's books and this one was another great read. I really enjoyed the story line. Spending time in Korea myself, this book really gave new insights into the country and the war. Steve does great research and no stone gets left unturned. You'll love it.

Gritty Realism Mar 27, 2011
By Jeffrey Miller Steven Spruill has penned an intense and gritty novel of the first year of the Korean War. After US and ROK forces took a beating from the North Koreans, the Inchon Landing and break out from the Pusan Perimeter turned the tide of the war. Then General Douglas MacArthur gambled with his forces sending UN Forces into harms way by driving to the Yalu. What happened next to some of those forces as they found themselves around the Chosin Reservoir in November 1950 was one of the low points of the war.
Bravo Mr. Spruill for a riveting account of that coldest winter.

Best War Story I Have Read In Years - Highly Recommended Jan 27, 2010
By Truvey Fielder Spruill effectively captures the gritty reality of war in this novel. Don't expect zany doctors chasing nurses around operating tables, but instead prepare yourself for the hardships of the common soldier fighting battles from the invasion at Inch'on to the frozen hell that was Chosin Reservoir. This is a delightful work of historical fiction that truly honors the men and women of America's Forgotten War.
I literally could not put it down.
