Not the pick of the litter(ati) May 10, 2009 Many better books out there on the subject--this one is just rubbish! Terribly written, not very scholarly, points a finger solely at the 'Cabala Conspiracy' but stops at a secret sect of Jews behind it all without bothering to comprehend that things are deeper, darker and much more widespread than that.
Mr. Makow's focus is terribly narrow, most "chapters" are no more than a few pages in length--not too scholarly, especially for a PhD. Another enormous tell on the lack of true intellectualism herein: NO bibliography and no attributions/quotes.
If I was his professor and he turned this in to me, I'd give him a "D" and tell him to do it over properly.

In the End, Quite Worthwhile May 09, 2009 I really didn't know what to think of this book when I first received it. And I must thank Amazon's excellent recommendation system for bringing it to my attention. Previously, I knew Henry Makow only for his Internet outreach. So, I had no real expectations for his work as an author. And, in the end, I was pleasantly surprised, and edified by this work.
This book is really a series of essays on the influence of occult forces throughout history even down to the present day. As such, the essays are not necessarily completely congruent in terms of message and theme. And this can be a bit distracting. Finally though, a theme does emerge: Our fallen world is controlled by powerful occult forces. And these we must resist. This I can fully support.
Makow does go to great pains to let us know that he is an ethnic Jew who disapproves of the machinations of powerful Jews, and others. This also we can wholeheartedly support. The threat to our world is not based on ethnicity in the final analysis. When you think about it, the thoughts that are in a person's mind are much more dispositive of their actions than the blood that flows through their veins. This important point is well made in this series of essays. In the end, it is an important book and well worth the time, money, and effort. We are again grateful to Amazon for their excellent recommendation system. God bless.

Complete Rubbish May 04, 2009 Fringe scholarship is both psychologically fascinating and horribly tragic at the same time. Like a vehicle accident or natural disaster this line of inquiry brings out the less than successful attempts to elevate human insignificance to a pathetic understanding of the deterministic forces that shape most of human history.
Illuminism is the most popular bugbear boogieman for the religious and political conservative movement/s of the last 200 years. This cottage industry has gone into feverish overtime since 9/11 and more recently by the advances of social progressivism around the world, further eroding the beloved illusory traditionalism of this reactionary world view. This view is characterized in general with the need for a maligned and scapegoated "other" to cast blame on for all percieved social ills. All group minds have sufferd from this delusion throughout history and thus all of us at one time or another have served as this other. Like a friend once comically remarked, "Somewhere, sometime we will all be burned in effigy."
I beg any reader of this work by Henry Makow, Ph.D. to strive to at least the pretense of scholarship by examining all the sources available to us on this topic before becoming true believers. Most recently works such as J.M. Roberts "The Mythology of the Secret Societies" and Gary Lachman's "Politics and the Occult" serve to separate the facts and the delusions that have arisen when examining esoteric history. I assure you the Illuminati, OTO, Freemasonry and other esoteric subcultures are the least of humanities worries. Quit the night and seek the day! That last line should clench the sphincters of the audience this book is intended for.

Should be read by all Apr 06, 2009 Henry Makow has put together a collection of profound facts regarding who rules the world. Reading this book will change your outlook and perspective on politics and the deception of voting. Many will find his work offensive, I consider it genius.

Hijacked World Apr 02, 2009 Very informative book! Henry Makow provides an enlightening glimpse at forces and powers that are playing havoc in our world today. He exposes/documents the occult and esoteric "powers-that-be" which for decades, in the cloak of secret societies, have planned for the disintegration of our Christian based society.
