Living in America in the 21st Century is complicated enough without throwing obesity into the mix. Being fat adds a myriad of obstacles to the already perilous and arduous journey that life deals out. Many people who suffer from obesity, as well as other infirmities, often feel alone, not realizing the enormity of this problem in our society. It must be shown that indeed, though they are members of a large and ever-growing club, heartbreak and sorrow are not the only things this club has to offer. But it isn't easy, nor straightforward. Every expert on the subject of obesity has a different answer. How does one know how to proceed? Many elements come into play when dealing with health, fitness and weight loss. There are the four major elements, Physical Activity, Caloric Intake, Behavior Modifications and Inner Work. Each of these is divided into numerous categories and it can be a task of monumental proportions to bring everything into proper balance to attain one's goals. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill we can take to make it all better. Research and planning go into forming a proper plan that is different for each and every one of us. Then at the outset of implemention of a well thoughtout plan, the certainty that this is a long term effort must be acknowledged and accepted. What was a problem in the 20th Century is now an epidemic in the 21st Century. This cannot be solved overnight and en masse. It must be waged by each one of us on a case by case basis. People sitting at home with the lights low and the curtains drawn feel that they are all alone. But, other people suffer their same fate and I am one of them. I hope that by reading and understanding what I have gone through over the years, they may be able to identify with me and realize that they are not alone. As we gain knowledge, our fears abate. As our fears abate, resolve and tenacity gain strength and momentum. With this we can do anything, including to lose weight and get healthy.
