Book is MORE than "OK." It's a keeper. Jul 15, 2009 Hardly a person today can say they haven't been touched in some way by mental illness at certain points in their lives. Maybe it was their partner or spouse, their children, friends, or co-workers. This book was written for each and every one of these people because the author knows that mental illness does not recognize age or social boundaries.
I found Hussey's book to be open, honest, and lighthearted; and her words will certainly give courage to many who struggle daily with deep fears, anxieties, and a sense of hopelessness. Read it for no other reason than to understand these issues and how they affect everyone differently. You'll probably find yourself within the pages of Hussey's book, but you'll also find a glowing spirit and mounds of compassion. This is where the healing begins.
The best thing about this book, aside from her sharp wit and wicked sense of humor, is Hussey's intention for sharing her own journey, and that of others, so that mental sufferers everywhere can have new information about their own "quirks" or "cooties," as she calls them, and be offered ways to deal with them.
A nice compliment to each chapter's end is the appropriate Scriptures quoted accompanied with words of inspiration and encouragement. An update on the author's life (including her family) is given at the end of the book along with ample resources, Mental Notes, and Discussion Topics for book clubs.
Written from the heart, Shelley gives it all to her readers and does so with unbelievable clarity and understanding for someone who is dissecting their own life from the outside in. She lovingly provides all with intermittent doses of humor, words of encouragement, and some very spirited wisdom. Mission accomplished.

Blessed my heart. Made me smarter & wiser. Gave me some chuckles. May 17, 2009 I appreciated I'M NOT OK, YOU'RE NOT OK, BUT THAT'S OK WITH GOD for several reasons: The author wrote from a first-hand approach, which made her words credible; she provided information in a clear manner; explained technicalities; and lightened it up with humor. The book is well-researched, fluid, and fully developed, with many professionals providing insights and contributions.
I especially appreciated the Biblical references reaffirming that mental illness is not a sin. This book helped me to see that God is not judging us or limiting us in seeking treatment. If you break your leg you go to the hospital to have it set and relieve your suffering; if you are suffering chronic pain from mental health issues, seeking professional treatment is the right thing to do
This book was particularly personal to me. I would recommend it to anyone whose life is touched by mental illness. And as Shelley Hussey informs us: "mental illness touches one out of four to five families and is no respecter of race, sex, financial status, or religion."

Encouraging Words Mar 05, 2009 I was able to connect with Shelley although I haven't directly experienced what she has. By Shelley openly sharing her experiences, I have found comfort in knowing I am not the only person who stresses out. Even though we have no control over what life throws at us, we learn to deal with it by looking for the humor in our situations. I found the "Healing Words" at the end of each chapter particularly beneficial because they were inspiring and encouraging. Thanks for sharing your experiences and words of wisdom!

A must read - very informative and entertaining work! Feb 20, 2009 The writer has such an awesome message that comes from sometimes awful experiences... I'd like to see this book read throughout high schools and colleges as well as churches. ... Well, everywhere! There is not an honest person anywhere that can't identify with something, somewhere in her writings and experiences. And I've never seen such a great mix of understanding and information. I checked Shelley Hussey's website; she does motivational speeches and things. If I ever hear that she's coming near where we live, my wife and I will try to hear her in person. I highly recommend this book!

Attention One and All Feb 19, 2009 This is an amazing book that reaches out and gives hope to all walks of life - connected by this one thread, mental illness. More importantly, Shelley is a voice for anyone and everyone who has ever suffered from mental illness, shining the light on society's view while providing laughter and hope in a way that I've never seen previously. Shelley is to be commended for her endeavor in changing the way the public views mental conditions and those that endure them.
