A very good read. Lots of action with lifelike characters to carry the story forward without pausing.
You'll enjoy meeting them and love even the villains so well are they drawn. The setting will make you recall visits to a mountain lake or wish you could visit one now.
Mysterious phone calls are followed by threats and increasing harassment to Jennifer and Tom Casey, also known as Hawkman. Who is Jim Anderson the caller wants to speak with? Why does he call the Casey residence.
Hawkman begins a search that leads into the past and finds surprises awaiting him. Can he find this troublemaker before things get too serious? Join him as he tries to avoid pitfalls and sort the truth from lies.
I'm pleased to recommend this fun read by talented author Betty Sullivan La Pierre whose creative ability will keep you reading. You'll want to read her other books as her characters quickly become old friends.

A phone call for Jim Anderson stirs old concerns for Tom and Jennifer Casey. Tom hadn't used his given name in years; not since the last time someone tried to kill him.
Thus begins the ninth in the Hawkman series.
The man on the other end of the phone messages knows too much. He know Hawkman's and his wife's new names. He knows that Jennifer received a kitten. He knows that Tom Casey's PI office is located above a pastry shop--and he's paid a visit. He lets the couple know that he can see them inside their house.
A new kitten who's aptly named, a peregrine falcon, a stalker, a manhunt in the mountains--and of course Tom "Hawkman" Casey and his very able wife, Jennifer together add up to cover to cover suspense and excitement.
Another great addition to Betty Sullivan la Pierre's winning series.

Threatening messages, sniper potshots, assaults....escalating violence leads to Hawkman's most dangerous case to date. Also his most important, for the life he saves will be his own.
A voice from Hawkman's past rings out from his message machine. Even though he does not recognize the voice, it sends chills up his spine. And while the message is menacing, more unnerving is the fact that the caller uses Hawkman's real name, Jim Anderson, the name he went by when he was in the Agency. He thought he was safe after this amount of time, his Agency years nearly forgotten. He changed his name, hung out his shingle as a private investigator and tucked himself away with his wife Jennifer and his falcon Pretty Girl at his peaceful home on Copco Lake in the hills of northern California. Now someone as well trained as Hawkman seems bent on revenge. But revenge for what? Sure, Hawkman made enemies during those years, but not among his fellow agents. He couldn't remember a single person who would hold a grudge.
While Hawkman struggles to figure it out, the stalker becomes more bold in his movements, more intent on making their lives miserable and more dangerous as his hatred for Hawkman grows.
Meanwhile, Jennifer and Hawkman take wise precautions for their safety, but they vow not to let the threats make them prisoners in their own home. There are several close calls, but they are a resilient couple. It seems that their tormentor may have underestimated them --- and their friends, many of whom are local law enforcement types.
Ms. LaPierre starts the action on the first page and doesn't let up until the last one. Even the introduction of a precious Ragdoll kitten does little to ease the tension. If anything, concern for their new pet keeps everyone edgy --- but also amused, for the little cat has a bagful of antics guaranteed to make anyone giggle, including Hawkman.
With IN FOR THE KILL, Betty Sullivan LaPierre illustrates the value of love and the waste of hatred. She shows that people working together for a noble cause can triumph over destructive forces driven by malice. It may not always work that way in real life, but one can hope it happens more often than not, and one can be assured that it will in Ms. LaPierre's winsome, edgy mysteries.

Jennifer doesn't know what is happening when there's a message on her answering machine. A message for Jim Anderson. No one has used Hawkman's birth name for such a long time. Not since that day... This could mean that his life is in danger again. Are they after him, even after such a long time? This is what she and her husband have been afraid of since the day he left the agency.
Pretty soon it's obvious to Hawkman that somebody from his past is indeed after him, and not with good intentions. He and his wife have to be extremely careful. There's someone who knows everything about the new life they build up. But one thing is sure, he has to find out who it is, before it's too late!
Imagine you're being threatened, someone is following every step you take and letting you know what you did during the day... Hawkman normally knows how to handle these things, but this time things get out of hand and pretty soon the Siskiyou County Law Enforcement becomes involved. Betty Sullivan La Pierre has written more suspense stories, this is the ninth one in the Hawkman series. It seems to me that in each Hawkman story, the author has the knowledge of how to put more and more suspense in it. This story is fascinating from the first page till the last. If you like the Hawkman stories, be sure not to miss out on this one! If you haven't read a Hawkman story yet, try this one, you'll love it and you will be interested so much that you will want to read the previous ones as well.

Once again Hawkman is being hunted by an ex-agent with a grudge, and those he loves, and even strangers, are threatened by this feeling of resentment. The ex-agent could be anywhere and no one is safe from his vile game of cat and mouse, where he gets sick satisfaction out of taunting his victims before going in for the kill.
Jack Hargrove had once threatened to hunt down Jim Anderson (Hawkman), because he didn't think he had died all those years ago when he left the agency. But why Jack had a beef with Hawkman, no one was sure about, because Jack hadn't joined the agency until after Hawkman had left. New information about Jack's son, Ray, surfaces, and Hawkman realizes the threat may be deeper than anyone knew.
As things heat up, Hawkman's wife, Jennifer, feels like a prisoner in her own home. And the threatening phone calls don't help either. The only thing keeping her sane is the new kitten she received from a friend. As she tries to write her latest Mystery, she worries about Hawkman's safety and that of her friends who are also being threatened by Jack.
It's always nice to come back to a Hawkman Mystery. These are characters I've grown to love, and it's like going home and visiting with old friends after a lengthy absence. In for the Kill puts you on the edge, and you'll wonder if this will truly be the end of Hawkman. As each plot twist snares you, you become so entangled in the story, the ending whooshes down on you with a surprising outcome.
