Great read! Reality highs and lows from a journal's private side Jun 02, 2009 This is indeed a journal that expresses the feelings, fears, laughter, interactions and challenges that fills a woman working (with common sense) in the "NON" common sense men's world called the army. People who haven't served in the military can get a good idea of what life is like day to day and the challenges that arise. I have served myself and I had so many AHA moments and couldn't hold back laughter in recognition! I think the author did a great job admitting the emotions and feelings that are felt in the subconscious that you are always trying to suppress. She provides a sympathetic point of view of looking in the eyes of the citizens and children of the country we are fighting for and helping to create a safer living space for them and their families. The military is a learning experience and Melia shared the challenges and laughter that accompany any type of educational journey. I appreciate the candid portrait that she painted and recommend this book for easy and entertaining reading into the life of a female soldier. Not everyone may view it this way, but based on all the life experiences that I've had and what the military has taught me, I definitely do! Bravo to Ms. Meichelbock. You're a hero to our country and I appreciate you sharing your journey with the world. If I could rate you higher than 5, I would!

Rare Civil Affairs MOS information Apr 24, 2009 This is a great read for anyone who is "CA" or really wants to dive into a first account experiance of a day in the life of a soldier "down range".
Not much is written about the good work Civil Affairs (the guys and gals the media wont report on) has been performing world wide so I would recommend this book as a great read!

Sex & the City Meets the World of Iraq! Feb 26, 2009 I enjoyed reading this journalistic style account of a girl's experiences in Iraq. There is a good mix of drama, humor, and action for every reader. I'd be surprised by anyone who didn't enjoy it because I couldn't put it down. This young girl displays real courage by not only serving as a machine gunner with little to no training, but lays her experiences all on the line (even the embaressing ones) to give us readers an honest account of life overseas. I highly recommend it.

Candid, Funny, Heartbreaking, Uplifting--an Excellent Tell-All Dec 17, 2008 Wow! Anyone looking for an in-depth, no-holds-barred view of life in the military (especially any woman) must read this book! Meichelbock's honesty, humor, and endless self-assessment keep the pages turning fast. It takes someone brave to fight for this country, and in my opinion, someone even braver to share every detail of that experience--good, bad, frustrating, embarrassing--with the entire world. This is an excellent read and an exceptional story from this first-time author. Buy it! You won't be disappointed.

TMI and I want to know more... Nov 20, 2008 This writer is an honest tell it as it is kind of writer. You are drawn into her situations of vulnerability, embarrassing, humorous and terrifying moments. She does well at illustrating the truths about the REAL US soldier and Iraqi civilian's relationship. I have mixed feeling about us being over there but an added compassion I didn't have before. I think this book would be a great read for those that have family members serving currently in Iraq or have previously. It kind of gives us an explanation to all the wondering we have here in the security of the states. Great stories Melia thanks for sharing.
