A Woman-in-the-Military Eye Opener! Nov 17, 2007
By Read Too Much
"Sue"
An incredibly candid soldier's journal in Iraq. It's a fast read and a different take on Iraq/Iraqis than the 6 o'clock news. She's basically caught between the mind-numbing frustrations of the army, the physical risks traveling/working in a war zone and the 24-7 sexual pressure from hundreds of soldiers who haven't seen a good-looking woman in months! This might make a motion picture.

Brings Back Memories Jan 23, 2008
By Richard Silva
"Former Jarhead"
As a former Marine I can relate to many of Melias experiences. Having been out of the Corps for 16 years I tend to only remember the good stuff of being in the military, reading this book brought back the memories of the mental games we used to play and have played on us.
Melia describes her conditions with such clarity that I had no problem visualizing the different areas she stayed and the various conditions she had to live in.
I enjoyed reading this journal and there many moments where I would just laugh out loud.
A great read for anyone, whether they were in the military or not.

Must Read!!! Dec 25, 2007
By "Cat" Outstanding book! Once I started reading it, it was hard to put down. A woman who regularly spoils herself with manicures, pedicures and massages is thrown from her reality and into a war zone. A great insight of what being in a war zone is like and the ups and downs of being in a member in the U.S. military. She tells of her interactions with the Iraqi civilians, Iraqi government and Iraqi military as well as the Iraqi's that risk their lives daily to help the U.S. millitary; translators, etc. Written so a non-military person can easily understand.

Funny.....but with a slap in the back of the head message Dec 10, 2007
By Mthmnd You will feel like you are in Iraq..with all the Army SNAFUs as well as the intensely personal emotions of an American girl representing her country well. The author is your girlfriend or your sister or your daughter telling funny story after funny story while at the same time letting the reader know how important the US mission in Iraq is...to her and to the rest of us. Couldn't put it down.

Honest, personal and oh-so humorous viewpoint of life in the military Nov 17, 2007
By Dayna Karsch What a crackup! Each and every chapter brings with it a new experience and of course, a new laugh - from MREs to toilets (or more appropriately, lack of toilets) to gunning and, one simply cannot forget the endless guard duty. It gives the reader an insider's view of what it's like to be in a war ravaged country and more importantly, what it's not like. Meichelbock's candid and personal portrayal of her experience makes you feel like you're reading the memoirs of a really good friend. A great read!
