India on the Rise

The purpose of this book is to present the true face of contemporary India without being bogged down by the baggage of the past. For long India has been looked down as a country of snake charmers, elephants, sadhus (saints) and beggars. That image has kind of been strengthened by the media of the West, which shows only the ugly and dirty aspects while ignoring the bright ones. This book is all the more relevant in light of the emergence of India as an economic power to contend especially in software, BPO (Business process outsourcing), pharmaceuticals and to an extent in manufacturing.

350 years of India in 2-3 hrs  May 26, 2006
I have been a passionate follower of the events over the years transforming India from being a third world country to a super power. I can authoritatively say that Kiran's book "India on the rise" tries to capture as many of those events that led to India sliding down to be amongst the poorest / insignificant countries and again bouncing back to be a super power in the next few decades.

It is a great book for a beginner who wants to get a quick understanding of the country and nice read for an aware individual to build upon his / her understanding of the change. I would recommend this book to any expatriate who has been out of touch with the country.

At certain times Kiran seems to be inclined to the right of the center, probably echoing the feeling / voice of the youth that have been frustrated under the pseudo-socialist regime of 40 odd years. Font and layout of the book could have been better
