Indigo

INDIGO is historical fiction set in 18th century Florida. English East Florida has a new colony of indentured servants. Recruited from the Isle of Minorca, they were brought to Florida to grow indigo. Starving and horribly mistreated by their Scotch master, a young couple escapes. Their adventures unfold in a beautiful but wild and untamed land. Their futures become as uncertain as the future of Florida, owned by the English, desired by its former owner, Spain, and coveted by the American colonies on its northern border. This uniquely different story of the indomitable human spirit exposes a time and events in Florida's history that until recently have been virtually untold.

4A Fine Debut!  Apr 13, 2001
I could not put this book down. Latrell Mickler has done a wonderful job of meticulous research and attention to detail. This is a book of historical fiction, about a Minorcan couple in Florida in the 1700's. Much political and natural history is covered in this book, as well as a very interesting perspective of the Native Americans in Florida and the vicinity in this time period. I recommend this book highly to people who want to see history come alive!
