Powerful, emotional, compelling novel is presented by J P Ronan.

Several women from Ole Virginia are thrust into the great conflict of the civil war. The tales of their lives and hardships render a poignant account of life in those times.

This is a book that will be reread!

5tears and smiles  Sep 14, 2005
By Missy M
A young girl, Cathy Jo is orphaned and returns to the family farm in rural Virginia. Cathy Jo is a country girl true and through. Her best friend and cousin Emmy are opposites. Emmy is the consummate refined lady. The pair is all but inseparable.

Early southern life in Virginia in the middle 1800's is vividly shared with the reader. The experience of Emmy and Cathy as they begin to attend balls and socials as young ladies is especially entertaining. Their first experiences with romance highlight the pleasant living of the southern culture. Both girls find true love.

The beginning of the American Civil War disrupts the course of nature for the girls. Society and families are plunged into turmoil. The progress of the war and the harm to soldier and family is shared through the womanly experiences of the two heroines.

Cathy Jo enlists in the Confederacy. The story follows her and her comrades as they fight through many of the major battles of the Civil War. The readers feel the suffering and loss of the fighting soldiers through a young woman's eyes and heart. Emmy stays at home and suffers the harm and devastation away from the battle field also as felt by a woman.

My tears where shed as I read J P Ronan's "Inspirations". I also laughed at times at the antics of the girls. The story ended too soon, but I was left with much inspiration for the good that overcomes the evil of man fighting man in war.
