Introduction to the Sources and Founding of Alcoholics Anonymous

Dick B. has long awaited the opportunity to provide a written introduction to the history of Alcoholics Anonymous that could be used by individual Twelve Step people, sponsors, facilitators, therapists, writers, historians, treatment centers, and interested agencies to include a correct 12 Step history in their own programs. And this is the title for just that! There are five major epochs in the spiritual recovery program that is embodied in Alcoholics Anonymous itself. Each is covered in this introduction; and the points here provide an umbrella introduction to the variant sources, attitudes, strains, divergences, and language in programs today. Dick is an ardent sponsor of the idea that any recovery program--12-step, treatment, rehab, individual therapy, para-church, Christ-centered, Christian, and secular--should have a simple, accurate presentation of the historical roots of the 12-step movement. And this short title fits the bill. It is currently being used for the stated purpose.

5A Historical Startup Point for Any and Every Recovery Program  Mar 28, 2008
By Daxton Lyon
This book is a must. For whom? For anyone starting recovery in A.A. or a 12-Step program; for anyone starting treatment in a regular or in a Christian-track program; for anyone starting therapy for addictions, including alcoholism; for treatment program leaders, counselors, and directors; for clergy, Christ-centered programs, church recovery leaders, psychologists, therapists, physicians. Why? Because very very few start recovery with a simple answer to where it all started, what the pioneers did, how their program evolved, and how to use it today. I'm directly involved in the educating aspect of providing answers. And I strongly urge the readers to acquire and use this book to introduce the founding and development of Alcoholics Anonymous as a benign starting point. They were winners then. Their ideas, if known, can help people to be winners today.

5A simple introduction to the comprehensive subject of Alcoholics Anonymous History  Oct 18, 2011
By Dick B. "Dick B."
In all, Dick B. has published 42 titles and almost 700 articles on Alcoholics Anonymous History.

Some of the books are large in size and content. They also cover the complete span of relevant A.a. history. But it appeared that it was equally important to get this material into simple, informative shape so that A.A. newcomers, sponsors, speakers, and Christian recovery leaders and workers could use an introduction in their recovery efforts. An introduction that would alert the worldwide recovery arena to the subject they had so long shelved.

The subject was the basic picture of Alcoholics Anonymous roots. And this easily read, simple book carries out its intended task with great success. It will be a useful tool for all who work in the recovery arena.
