Inventing New Virtues: The Medical Model of Sin

Dr. Vincent P. Cookingham's Inventing New Virtues: The Medical Model of Sin stands as a scholarly and persuasive analysis of the moral compass now guiding our lives, a compass transitioning us away from old virtues and toward a culture of new virtues (and sins) that redefine who we are: a society abandoning those Judeo-Christian ethics that once dictated, and brought value to, our lives. Dr. Cookingham writes that modernists have changed our view of original sin, which has led to laws, virtues, religions, attitudes, and therapies that now undermine the morality and spirituality of our society. An ordained Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, the author explains how the fusion of theological and sociological disciplines impacts the corporeal and spiritual components of man, as well as our moral order. Drawing from personal experiences, Cookingham discusses political science, faith, and social commentary, and the misdirection in which our culture is now moving.

5"True Blue"  Sep 02, 2009
By Emmett P. Noonan
Inventing New Virtues: The Medical Model of SinIn "True Blue" fashion, Doctor Cookingham clearly, with courage, wit, humor and great charity outlines contemporary fallicies of Secular Humanism/Moral Relativism and the devastating effects they are having on Western Society an in particular our own country, the USA. The text is clear and leaves plenty of room to add our own individual experiences, which only validate Doctor Cookingham's premise about "original sin" and the antedote, namely the time honored moral principles of Judeo-Christianity. "Inventing New Virtues" will be a welcome addition to my reference library. This is a must read for those serious about understanding the negative effects of political correctness and fallacy of self esteem and its relationship to the "Culture of Death" which is so prevelant in our society today. Yet, there is great hope, and contrary to the modern social commentary icon Bob Dylan, the answer is not "Blowin in the Wind", the real answer is Christ Jesus in His Divinity and His humanity.

Deacon Emmett J. Noonan
