Review of "Is God Laughing or Crying" Jan 26, 2008

With his usual thought provoking and "to the point" style of writing, John has ventured into a new medium by illustrating in this cartoon format what his words have been saying. This brings an added measure of understanding but also leaves room for the reader to embellish from personal experience not only what is read, but what can now be seen in the illustrations.
In these cartoons, John attempts to bring the reader in touch with the reality and the absurdity we see much too frequently in institutional church. Laughter,often, is the Only saving grace at these times.
The title "Is God Laughing or Crying" may help us to see ourselves as well as our hierarchical institutions in a clearer vision. Although at times the absurdities make us laugh, the sadness and pain of the realities make us cry. And God? If we are created in God's Image, then doesn't God feel the same? Laughing? Crying?
Thank you, John, for once again bringing us, your readers, into the light of understanding through your words and now Cartoon format that which we so often feel and yet cannot express for ourselves.
