A Super Historical Novel that I enjoyed and got educated! Feb 24, 2011
By Robin Wren The author wrote a terrific story about John Paul Jones. He covered everything from Jones's boyhood days in Scotland to his deathe in Paris, France. The book was written in such a way that it never came across as a bland historical novel but more like a page turning mystery. Once I started reading it I couldn't put the book down. I thought the sea battles of the Drake and Ranger were super. This goes double for the battle between the Seripis and the Bon Homme Richard. I was amazed that the author could use the real historical characters and still make the book a captivating story. In summary, this was a super novel that gave me an excellent insight into this great patriot. Highly recommend.

My first historical novel and certainly not my last Feb 03, 2011
By Indyreader I had not read a book in quite a while but was not sure what to read. We recently had found some people we had not seen in a long time through the use of the internet. I decided to look up the name of Robert L. Saunders, a man whom I worked with and became good friends with back in the late sixties and early seventies. My initial phone reunion with him revealed that he was an author. A subsequent visit back east to visit my Mother and other people became a perfect opportunity to add West Virginia as a stopping point for a visit with Robert and his wife. During that very short but rewarding visit, Robert gave me an autographed copy of this book and told me that it was an historical novel which was something that I had never read before. As soon as we returned home, I started reading the book and finished it in a matter of a few days. I really enjoyed how the author wove a lot of historical fact in with a great story with a host of great characters. I had remembered the name of John Paul Jones from a passing reference in an American History class in high school but that was it. My knowledge of this naval hero has certainly been enhanced as a result of this reading experience. Since reading this book, I have read everything that Mr. Saunders has written to date and I will have a few words to say about each one in upcoming reviews. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. Thanks Robert and keep them coming.

A Great Historical Story that Makes sense! Jun 28, 2009
By BooksForMe I read this historical novel over a two evening period and I enjoyed it very much. What was more important to me was that it wasn't boring and I learned so much about this naval hero John Paul Jones. The author's account of Marie Antoinette was just icing on the cake. Highly recommend this book.
