Multiple errors on every page Nov 07, 2008
By George Bounacos I am stunned that this book has sold any copies. The first 38 pages contain at least an error per page in run-on sentences, subject-verb agreement and other serious errors. I cannot believe that a copy editor ever touched this book. Instead it seems like some vanity press project.
My own blogs and online writing often contain homonyms, missing words or other errors. That's because user-generated content like this review are not subject to an editor's keen eye. A book costing $30? I expect that to be edited.
My only hope now is that Amazon will accept a return of this poorly written book.
For dummies? Aug 06, 2010
By David When I bought this book, I had already installed Joomla 1.5 and played a bit with the different features, which means half of the book was worthless for me. Not saying the book is totaly worthless, but if you have just played a tiny bit with the Joomla! system and are ok with clicking on the "Help" button, then this book doesn't give you much more.
The Virtuemart piece also only gives a very small help compared to the very useful helpsystem.
If you buy this book, it is because you want to use Joomla! 1.5 and Virtuemart and haven't tried any before!
Not a bad book Jan 21, 2009
By Alex Kouznetzoff First of all, this is not so bad book. But don't expect to find here PHP or SQL code. This book contains no deep technical details neither about Joomla nor anything else. In fact, the only technical insight I've seen was on p.84 describing file attributes in UNIX. Even there author confused herself stating that 755 file permissions mean group and others can read and rewrite its content. Major disadvantage of the book are zoomed in screen shots which make these unreadable even with magnifying glass. Since given screen shots represent most of the book's content, it gets very annoying.
Editorial team have done not really great job leaving so many typos, e.g. all "too" spelled as "to", all "than" spelled as "then" and even Web site URL address on p.327 is spelled as joomla@netdream.it
But nonetheless I'd like to give a credit to Michelle for the courage of putting together so many different things and features about Joomla. That will help to anyone who decides to join the Joomla fun's community.

A must have for anyone wanting to build or manage their Website! Oct 17, 2008
By Anna Before we found Michelle's book we were singing the Joomla blues. Everyone please run out and buy this book!! It will be the best $20 you've ever spent!!! This is for anyone that wants to manage and / or build their own website in Joomla. Michelle is an expert in her field and the customer support you will receive is exceptional! Before you throw in the towel and hire a web building company for thousands of dollars, sit down and read Michelle's book. You will glad you did. This is the perfect book for the layman who knows nothing about building websites.
