A Lesson on Winter and Life Feb 16, 2011
By sue John proves "no man is an island", even when alone for a winter on the shores of a frozen Michigan lake. I too share that lake but I sometimes need reassuring when my friends leave me for kinder climates. John's musings on the beauty a of winter spent in solitude helped me see that inner peace can be found in the midst of the greys and whites and the unpredictable fury and calm of these cold months. (After all, we all experience the winters in our lives, no matter what the thermometer reads.)
I love his metaphors. You'll find them in bike rides, a moon rising over the ice, an Easter breakfast, family, the ripple of a stone in the lake.
Six years ago I bought my first Chuchman book -- this one. It's never far from me.
Journeying Through Life Aug 18, 2009
By Georgann Brophy After the death of my husband, John Chuchman's poems in this book helped me more than any of the other helpful words friends so kindly offered. John's observations on journeying through grief, the real necessity to mourn, "letting go," Hope, Change, Energy, and literally jumping in to different life experiences showed me new horizons and a precious sense of the "Now." In re-reading it, I find the book even more valuable as I consider my relationships with my family members. I heartily recommend ordering two: one for yourself and one for a friend!
