WHAT A RIDE ! Sep 19, 2009
By illumine This book was a joy to read. Kause, leads us on a magical mystery tour, through the outback, the ocean, the land of dreams, ultimately to redemption. A childhood sweetheart, Miranda, turns out to be the force of love in adulthood, that drives our hero forward, regardless of his delusional, self destructive condition. Kause had me fooled right up to the last pages. I really never suspected the stalker's identity, despite some subtle clues. Now, looking back, the revelation is obvious, clear, inevitable. I don't think I've ever read such a modern tale of love, adventure, sex, death and magic all rolled in to one. It was fun hanging out underwater with Turtle, visiting deceased Dad in the ocean grotto, being rescued by Pelican, wandering though infancy and puberty with Kause's mates. One thing I appreciate is the point blank lyrical style of prose, feeding the reader just enough information and nothing more, allowing us to concoct a much more vivid world, than having to trudge through phone books of flowery description. I look forward to Kause and Effect !!!

Way to Catch Me Off Guard! Jun 08, 2011
By Thomas B. Scott

I sat down to read this book on a rainy afternoon and found I couldn't put it down, even when the sun finally came out. The main character is enigmatic, but at the same time captured my heart. Set in Australia, the story jumps back and forth between eras, revealing Kause O'grady in-depth as we read about him growing up, and as a life-weary man looking back, trying to deal with the demons of his past. I was impressed by the way the story dances through a multitude of genres: mystery... character study... autobiography... thriller... intermingled with a touch of surrealism and tasteful coming-of-age eroticism. The mystery that grown-up Kause faces is made all the more mysterious by the fact that nobody around him seems to recognize that there is a mystery at all (which, of course, elevates the mystery for the reader). It all culminates in a clever ending that, I have to admit, I didn't see coming. Of course, in the end this is precisely what I found so pleasing about the novel. The language is poetic and the message is poignant. Get this book and prepare for an engaging read with a cool ending!

'Just Be Kause' literally draws the reader in and keeps you there. As a professional editor, I thoroughly enjoyed O'Grady's style of writing. It flows and moves at a nice pace, keeping the reader interested, enthralled and wanting more.
Written with a definite flair, the book has a voice all its own. The story unfolds and evolves, taking the reader along for the adventure.
This is one of those books you're sorry to see end. I anxiously await O'Grady's next novel and hope there will be more to follow!
