Don Swann has performed manufacturing roles from new engineer to Chief Operating Officer. He started the manufacturing consulting practice in the Southeast U.S. for Deloitte, which he grew to 165 consultants. He was once Engineer of the Year in Atlanta, and was active in professional and engineering professional organizations. During his career, he encountered and solved many “business mysteries.” He published numerous articles and text chapters describing the techniques he used to effect these improvements. After retiring from Deloitte, Don created Freddie Chapman to deliver fictionalized accounts of real business problems. The criminal elements that Freddie faces are completely fictional; the good guys are loosely based on the thousands of honest professionals Don worked with while fixing broken companies and plants. One of Don’s colleagues described Don’s role as “creating order out of chaos.” Don lives in Atlanta with Debbie, his wife of 40 years. He still consults with clients to unravel “business mysteries” and continues to write for the business press. Don keeps his body fit with a commitment to running and weight lifting, and his mind fit writing Freddie Chapman novels and at-home engineering projects (ask him about the electric gate!)
