Entertaining and inspiring book Nov 04, 2009
By A. Ulseth I was prepared for an entertaining read, but I wasn't prepared for what a spiritual/emotional feeling I got from reading this book. The kindness of strangers along the route made me so happy (even the ones who thought the guys were crazy!). I had just finished a book called The Christmas Bus by Melody Carlson. The book is based on Hebrews 13: 1-2 (showing hospitality to strangers for they may actually be angels.) The two books together put me in such a good mood. My eyes will be open for a chance to show hospitality to strangers. Truly inspiring!
Multi Mix of Pleasure Mar 27, 2011

I love a read that makes me laugh out loud. While reading "Ka-Ka-Ska-Ska", my giggles turned into uproarious laughter. Real life adventure, not unlike the early out-front scouts of old, these fearless kayakers trek the mighty Mississippi River from source to gulf. It is laced with humor, history, geology, wisdom and spirit. From stories of rescues to kindness shown these strangers, you will not want to put it down until the end. And as Lewis and crew charge into their next adventure you'll find yourself eagerly anticipating their next book.
Vicarious Adventure Mar 11, 2010
By Mom In Minivan What fun to voyage down the Mississippi vicariously through Jim's account of the adventure. This book is part travel log, part funny happenings, and part reflection on humans and their nature. I particularly enjoyed Jim's interest in the folks that they met as they traveled from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. Jim reminds us that everyone has a story, and that most folks are kind and good, even those who come with a crusty first impression.
A very inspirational book Feb 08, 2010
By Philip A. Jasso What an adventure... it is written in a way that makes the reader feel as though they are in a Kayak on the Mississippi. The mix of humor, sarcasm, and spiritual thoughts of the author mixed with what seems to be a neverending cast of different characters along the way, made this book such an entertaining read.
Entertaining for Everyone! Jan 10, 2010

You don't have to be a kayaker to enjoy this great read! From the beginning to the end, the story is inspirational and very humorous. I wasn't aware of what I could gain from a book about kayaking, since I had no interest in the sport. Throughout the entire read, my husband (trying to sleep next to me) would ask me to put down the book so I would stop laughing aloud. By the end, I was trying to think of what my next undertaking in life would be.
Ka-Ka-Ska-Ska is beautifully written with a nice mix of humor and adventure. Lewis is a fine storyteller pulling you into the narration as though his exploits and friendships are your own. I look forward to more nonfiction from this author!
