Hopefully this won't come back to haunt me... Jun 29, 2009
By Scooter Robinson I feel conflicted about this book. On one hand, I want to support indie authors, but on the other, I feel ripped off.
Rochelle Moore has assembled a collection of.. clippings and thoughts, and published them as a book "about Karma". There's no real insight or unusual perspective. The clippings are maddeningly incomplete and the thoughts are... well, trite. Some of the 'thoughts' are in the form of poetry, which is genuinely unbearable and childish.
Not to lambaste the book too roundly, but even the production value is borderline. In an effort to make the various thoughts and quotes seem different (I guess?) Ms. Moore has changed the font from page to page, but it ends up looking almost like she's centered some of the pages with spaces instead of justification... oh, and there are no page numbers.
I've said enough, but I'm just going to insert a quote to give an idea of the style of the poetry... perhaps I'm just missing something:
"PEACE, LOVE & LIGHT
Keep your words and morals true.
All entities you mind.
Within your inner soul renew
the truth of all mankind.
Karma lies in all around,
no person, place nor thing.
To all, you see, it can be found
in nature's voice, will ring.
All beings of this universe
all creatures, humans, entities.
Your Karma lies for you to find
a path that sets you free."
