Kauai - Mile by Mile Guide: The Best of the Garden Isle

Kauai - Mile by Mile Guide: The Best of the Garden Isle is the second in the 'Mile by Mile' series. Starting with a thorough introduction of the island, this guidebook follows with a section on planning your ideal Kauai trip including details on weather, when to visit, accommodation and rental tips, and itineraries for both the one and two week travelers. Next the book describes the "Top 5 Spots" with all the best spots to visit on the island including places, beaches, gardens, waterfalls, and activities. Then the guidebook begins the mile by mile journey around Kauai. Visitors can start from any one of four starting points: East Kauai, North Shore Kauai, South Kauai, or West Kauai. The book includes: mile by mile maps with each spot described in the book clearly marked on the map, a total of 155 photographs including at least one photo for each spot in the book, place rankings and time estimates for each spot, and a detailed index. Kauai - Mile by Mile Guide was researched, photographed, and written by the authors. Let their experience be your guide to the Garden Isle of Kauai. This guide is written to appeal to all crowds, from the avid hiker and outdoorsman to individuals with the desire only to see the scenery from their car. So lets take a journey, a trip to paradise, and let's do it... Hawaiian Style.

5Very useful Kauai guidebook  Mar 15, 2006
By Hoppe (travel_hops) "Bob"
Used the book to tour and sightsee the entire island with ease. The descriptions are very accommodating, thorough and the photographs are exceptional. We were able to experience some of the recommend hiking in the guide as well, something we had not previously planned on doing due to time constraints; but it was well worth it and was one of our favorite activities on our trip. Best part of the book was the top spots chapter. Allowed us to quickly ID which spots were worth visiting during our 4 days on the island and which were best saved for another trip. I would highly recommend this guide to any Kauai visitor.

1Pehaps the worst guide book ever written  Oct 23, 2006
By Erik Wieland "ewieland"
I understand that it's difficult to top The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, but this book reads like whole passages were lifted from that much better volume. What appears to be original reads like it was written by 15-year-olds, and is mostly just naive drivel. Don't waste your time or money.

2Poor Photography  Aug 02, 2006
By William G. Eisenhauer "Bill Eisenhauer"
Kauai is a beautiful island and words alone aren't enough to convey this. As such, any book on Kauai needs great pictures to complete the message. Unfortunately, this book contains black and white, low-resolution pictures. In some cases, you can hardly make out the object of the picture.

The poor quality of the pictures earns it poor ratings. The words may be fine, but words alone aren't enough in a book about Kauai.

4Better than expected. A resourceful guide to Kauai  Dec 07, 2006

Hesitant to buy the book due to some reviews - we were pleased to find the guide is quite resourceful in visiting Kauai. The location coverage was very good and the planning chapters were quite helpful. The authors seem very sincere and clearly love the island. I'd recommend the book to others.

1Dull pictures  Dec 31, 2007
By M. M. Walcott
How can one turn beautiful, green, lush Kawai into boredom? Look at this book. The pictures are black and white, blurry, muddy (lack contrast), and appear to be dark grey holes in the page. Honestly I can't even start to read the text as the photo illustrations are so distracting.
