Bureaucrats Save the Empire Again! Oct 30, 2008
By Scott H. Washburn The latest installment in the saga of Gloria VanDeen and the Department of Extraterrestrial Affairs is a very good one. Gloria finds herself in the middle of a three-way battle for control of the Empire that requires all her wits (and, of course, her stunning body) to win. I particularly like how the characters continue to mature and develop. The major characters have more depth and even the minor ones seem like real people. It is interesting that the Emperor has grown from a rather dispicable cad in the first book to someone who might someday be called "Charles the Great". Even the bad guys are interesting. And there's still plenty of sex :) A fun read.

I got through it Jan 04, 2009
By C. Lund I was looking forward to another installment of Ryan's Dexta series. I was disappointed by this book. It took me over a month to finish it.
The previous books were guilty reads that I finished quickly. The "guilty" comes from beautiful people having constant sex with no real romance. The heroes have SciFi adventures while making only minor mistakes.
This book changes the formula. In Kiss the heroes make big mistakes with permanent consequences. That atmosphere clashes with the still beautiful people having even more romance-free sex.
Note this is a BookSurge title which means it is self-published and printed on demand. Thus the high price for a modest length paperback. I must assume Spectra, his previous publisher, was not interested in this sequel.
a more complex story, but the same Gloria Nov 08, 2010
By Wilson Miller This new installment is self-published, which I guess means the prior publisher lost interest in the series. It's the same gang of beautiful (and some not) people having lots of guilt-free sex (and some not guilt-free), but the plot is more serious than most of the previous stories. Gloria is not always so clearly in the right, and other characters are more complicated and more prone to surprise than earlier books. I enjoyed the new darker side of the story and the evolution of several of the main characters, but if you really just want simple and sexy, you might like it less than some of the previous stories. I really do hope to see how Gloria and company develop in the next book (assuming there is one!)

By Raymond F. Heslin Kiss of the Gods was okay but nothing compared to the first 4 novels of the Dexta series.
