A great book to help a person get through the shock of being laid off. May 07, 2009
By L. Larsen This book is written by an experienced management consultant who himself has seen layoffs as a manager and as an employee. Since he has lived this life, his advice and insight is very helpful for those affected by layoffs, or those who think they might be the next to lose their jobs. It is not just insight, but it is practical helpful ideas to cope and survive this really difficult time in our economy. On top of all these, the strong message of hope in this book is delivered with help from lyrics of songs, some humor, and many factual stories. An excellent book to read and/or recommend to those that you know who might need encouragement.

Inspirational and up-lifting Dec 07, 2009
By A. Bar-Shir Layoffs and Hope is a most up-lifting and inspirational book on the painful and complex subject of job loss. If you are or had been laid-off, or are a manager who needs to deal with laying off staff - Bruce Razban's book is an inspirational masterpiece, which will help you deal with this painful, difficult period. It is a masterpiece, because the book is based on author's own experience of being on both sides of the coin, which no matter how flipped, the coin fell on the wrong side. It is a masterpiece also because the book is written in a way that is very easily read, with short and to the point chapters, yet at the same time conveys wealth of information and instills hope. If you feel you are about to lose hope and your spirit is going down the drain, get this book, read in bed before sleep, or at breakfast, or on your commute to your next job interview. Layoffs and Hope will be a good companion for you in any of those settings. Good luck and enjoy your reading.

It is easy to read, informative and best of all, it worked for me. It got me out of retirement, contacting my network and learning the latest programming language, PHP. Great Book. Bravo!
it's funny, it's educational, it's enlightening... Apr 19, 2009

The life stories and triumphs of the author regarding his professional career and personal issues with his over-weight remind us that "life goes on" despite temporary setbacks, disappointment, or disillusionment. There is indeed light at the end of the tunnel, if we just allow hope to emerge in our life outlook always. As long as we price things right, e.g. placing self-integrity, health and family, friendship above the pure money pursuit, we'll find ourselves shrouded by happiness, and devoid of any despair. The uplifting message that things will be OK, despite how gloomy the situation may look and feel at the moment, is to be kept for the present tough economic times, where family tragedies seem to hit the headline news everyday. The sheer dark humor, which I can appreciate through personal experience, about how dysfunctional the workplace and the office politics can be is worth a read all by itself! This book is a must read for anyone impacted by the layoff phenomenon and want to reach the key understanding necessary to recover from it! I give it a 5 star.
Straight talk from someone who's been there, survived, and thrived. Apr 13, 2009
By D.A. (Debra) Benton > Bruce B. Razban, based on 30 years of Senior Management Consulting experience in Silicon Valley CA, takes the reader on a vivid emotional journey describing hurt feelings resulting from layoffs thus reducing the anxiety. He has walked this talk, and coached and advised 100s. Considering that research indicates that 40% of Americans and Europeans are unhappy with their work life, he describes the consequent losses. Losses that result in 50 million losing their jobs around the globe this year with an annual productivity loss of $2.4 Trillion in US alone. For the first time this book has discovered and labeled fear of "Sudden Job Loss" which as crippling as well known "Fear of Flying". More than ten years ago, he had also realized executive management crisis that has just now been highlighted in the news media. Then, using his extensive professional management and business experience, he describes why layoffs do not work in the long term and offers > time-tested best industry practices such as HP Way, Agile Management, and Six Sigma Root Cause Analysis as strong viable alternatives to produce such revolutionary concepts such as 107.8% employment. > > But the most important thing about this book is that it is easy to read, entertaining, empowering, and inspiring to those who do not have, and even those who have jobs. There is a strong message of hope ingrained in the pages of this book! It shows all of us how to survive one of the most times in American, and the world economy. As the song says, "I will Survive!"
