Legend and Fact: Secret Rooms, Hiding Places and Monuments of the Underground Railroad

I am a former Hoosier, born in Evansville, Indiana 1951, now NYC based photographer. My photography work is related to my interest in history and in art. Murals from my series "Stones of the Palisades: An archaic man returns to the Hudson River Valley" are on view at the Peter Cooper Post Office (11th Street & 4th Avenue) and the Peter Stuyvesant Post Office (14th Street between 1st and A Avenues) in New York City. I have collected, bought and sold art for 20 years. Mostly photography, paintings, folk art and prehistoric Native American stone artifacts. I live in the East Village, NYC with my wife and daughter.

1Quick read  Dec 26, 2009
By Julie A. Meier
I just received this booklet for Christmas and am very disappointed in the length. I added it to my wish list and had not noted the page length (44 pgs). I anticipate that the material will be engaging, however, $17.00 is far too expensive for the amount of content. One long wait at the doctor's office should have you completing this booklet.

4Great Historical Document  Jan 19, 2009
By L. Mello
This thoughtful book of photos and accompanying short essays reminds us not only of a terrible time, but also of the importance of learning about it and discovering one's personal relationship to the facts surrounding those events.
It is a great historical document that speaks to the new period of growth and maturity in American history. "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it."
These photos document the haunting memory of fear that must have accompanied those brave souls that dared defy predominant beliefs of a not so distant past.
The book stands well on its own, but would also be a useful teaching tool.
