Writer's Digest Award Winning Book! Oct 12, 2009
By Rick Dale
"Author of The Beat Handbook"
It was my great honor to be the editor of Charles James' new book, Life Lines. Having a copy of Life Lines in your hands is like having this wise observer of the human condition teaching you firsthand about love, loss, and the mysteries of life. If you're a fan of contemporary poetry, you'll love Life Lines. I could say more, but I'd rather have Charlie's poems speak for themselves.
Now, a year after I wrote the above, Charlie's book has won first place in the poetry category in the Writer's Digest 18th Annual Self-Published Book Awards. He deserves this recognition, and it only serves to validate what I said above.
Charlie James is indeed one of the best poets of our time.

Stories All Of Us Have Lived And Are Living Apr 30, 2010
By S. Trimm Charles James believes that if poetry is not accessible to the Average Joe and Johanna, it isn't really poetry. He asserts that poetry can be meaningful without being obscure and that it can have depth that is unpolluted by literary device and pretension. I agree. The poems in "Life Lines" are accessible, their meanings are clear, their observations, lessons and questions timeless and universal. Mr. James uses poetry to tell stories from his life - many of which I find I have lived, too. The best poets tell stories that all of us have lived and are living. Read what Charles James has written. I don't mean to embarrass him, but I think he just might be among the best of our poets.
