An invaluable and very practical guide for treatment of trauma and dissociation! Jun 18, 2009
By Andrew J. Seubert Sandra's book does a wonderful job of guiding the reader through the necessary phases of trauma treatment for dissociative disorders. Although it focuses on severe dissociation (DID), it is very useful for work with ego states, and although intended primarily for EMDR-trained therapists, any therapist doing trauma treatment will benefit greatly. I believe that much of the material is geared towards therapists, yet clients can also glean a great deal of understanding regarding their dissociative capacities and the road to healing. What makes the book so accessible and digestible is the format (very short didactic passages, followed by clinical anecdotes that make the teaching come alive) and the delightful cartoons, that provide a right-brain learning and exude compassion and understanding. A job very well done!

This is a wonderful book for theraspits treating DID and for their patients suffering with it. May 30, 2009

This book will be a great help to therapists wanting to utilize EMDR as a treatment for their clients with DID and also for patients dealing with the disorder. The whimsical cartoons presented in the book help de-stigmatize the disorder for those who have it and also are very helpful in both the client and theraspits' ability to understand what is going on internally with the patient with a dissociative disorder.

Looking Through the Eyes of Trauma and Dissociation Mar 19, 2011
By Russ B This is a wonderful book. Thank you Dr. Paulsen. However, it is only wonderful for therapists who have had EMDR training and experience. Other people will likely be puzzled by it. For me it opened my eyes to ego state therapy. I have not focused on working with clients with major trauma nor dissociative identity disorder. Thus I was a late comer to EMDR after 30 years of practice. Now, after this book I see the value of ego state therapy. What a joy to read a book that doesn't have to be astute, but is simply helpful to the therapist who is ready to expand their effectiveness. Just like EMDR transformed my practice, this will transform it too as I work with client whom we may not have even labeled as having disassociation.
If you aren't trained in EMDR do that. Then get this book so you can become a the therapist you wanted to when you went into this field.
Russ B, LISW
