AN AWESOME BOOK, ESPECIALLY FOR WLS PATIENTS Sep 26, 2009 This book is wonderful, especially for 'weight loss surgery' patients, such as me. I had my surgery in June/2006 and lost all the weight I needed w/i 10 months. In fact, my local doctors that I always see, were commenting that I was getting too thin and were concerned. 'OH, WHOA IS ME'!! My bariatric surgeon is way up in Minneapolis, about a 6 hr. drive from us, so he allowed my own drs. to take over my case and order the lab work that they, my bariatric clinic would occasionally want done. Plus, LOL, I'd just as soon like to stay away from Minneapolis, as my mom-in-law now resides there.
But now, I find myself needing to lose about 15-20 lbs. again. My hubby says that he thinks that the gain is from me exercising and replacing fat with muscle. My clothing from spring is fitting better even if I'm weighing more now. I went through a long period of 'nothing tasting good or right' for about 2 yrs.
This book is a 'quick reading', 'can't put down' type of book. Dr. John Simpson speaks in terms that are so easy to understand. He tells us what rules we've been following are 'myths' and which rules YOU SHOULD FOLLOW AND WHY. He even admits that he's done some of the things that he, my bariatric clinic, and family dr. have advised against. For example, making sure that you drink enough fluids. Apparently, he was golfing in Arizona (where he's from), and suffered from severe dehydration. He passed out and one of the players, playing with him, was a doctor too. He got Dr. Simpson into the clubhouse and stuck him in the shower, also making sure that Dr. Simpson drank alot of fluids to make up for his severe bout of dehydration. Dr. Simpson said that one symptom of dehydration is 'not making logical decisions'. He admitted that he should have been taken to the hospital, as the doctor he had been playing with suggested. Dr. Simpson made the mistake of refusing to be taken there.
The only thing I'd have to say bad about this book is that I wish that it was a little thicker and I hadn't read it so quickly. I have lots and lots of books about 'Weight Loss Surgery' and the only one that compares with Dr. Simpson's great advice is 'Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies'. I will always hang onto that book and this one.
I know that now I'll be on the lookout for Dr. Simpson's other books.
I'd also like to mention that the seller that I bought this from has a 100% feedback. Somehow, when I was trying to put my own excellent feedback in for the seller, for some reason, only 3 stars showed up and it wouldn't let me go back and fix it. It did, however, allow me to delete my feedback on him. I let the seller know about this and told him that I'd rather leave no feedback, rather than anything lower than 5 stars for him. He understood completely and said, "thanks anyway". I had this book w/i 2-3 days of ordering it. AN EXCELLENT BOOK AND A 5 * SELLER!!!!
Practical Common Sense Advice Mar 12, 2009 Practical common sense advice, that many of us get caught up in life and forget to do. The book is a quick read and a quick study that can be completed in a single evening. Take notes you'll remember the information better; then apply what you learn and you will get to your goal.

Practical Advice for the Overweight Mar 03, 2006 Having read every diet book on the market, I bought this one to add to my collection! It had practical advice, and insight for me, that I had not heard before. What a neat surprise! It's a quick read and well worth, the price.
