5Christmas Gift  Aug 22, 2009
Creative and colorful, LUCKY ELVES is a wonderful gift for any child on your list. The unique elves busy themselves with Christmas activities at the North Pole. The illustrations are new and intriguing, featuring animals from the North Pole. Lively alliteration adds to the book's poetic style. The suggestion that we are lucky to be who and what we are is the positive message that I want my grandchildren to think about at Christmas and the whole year round.

5A Celebration!  Aug 20, 2009
I shared this book with First Graders. The story proved to be a great intro to a daily writing. They each wrote about something that they felt that they could do well. At the end of their writing, they wrote "Lucky, ________!" (Their name was put in the blank). They each shared their special writing and we all clapped in celebration of what they could do well. The children were so proud! After the sharing, they made elves and I took a camera picture and put their little faces where the elves faces would be. We placed the elves all around the room for everyone to read. This was a happy activity for the children. This book lends itself to other writing ideas, to Reader's Theater, and also is just a great story to get children talking about how it feels to do personal best. It is a fun book!
