An Enthralling Adventure with a Lot of Heart Dec 05, 2008
By A. Butterfly Lydia the Ladybug in Paris is an exciting sequel to Lydia: The Story of How the Ladybug Earned her Wings by Marie Lawrence. This time Lydia finds herself getting an invitation to participate in the greatest fashion show that the world will ever know!
Seeking to strengthen alliances with all animals in the animal kingdom, and to make reparation for the disregard shown for their habitats in the past, The King of France decides to host a fashion show in Paris where all the animal queens will be invited to display their royal attire. The one who is voted be the most fashionable will then be awarded a jewel from his Majesty's crown.
As Lydia is whisked away in a royal coach in this magical fairy tale, you'll find that you will be with her every step of the way, as she competes with some pretty exotic divas for such a prize. The fanciful illustrations, the author's deftness at creating inventive rhyme to match the personalities of these divas, and the wonderful plot which is a mixture of humor and inspiration makes for a story of pure delight.
There is a powerful message in the book's central theme of showing concern for the lives of our fellow creatures as expressed in the King and Queen's dialogue (in chapter 1) and when Lydia, acting out of compassion for the life of an animal (in chapter 4) rescues a stray kitten in the palace rose garden.
This book is great for a either a beginning or intermediate reader because the story will engage a younger as well as an older child. Rich in words used in the descriptions of the characters and in the way the story is told, through entertaining verse, it will certainly enrich your child's vocabulary. In the back of the book, a compact dictionary is included containing most of these wonderful words along with their definitions that they may not yet be familiar with. The author also provides some interesting history about the Eiffel Tower and a clever little story problem that children will have fun with while using some math skills in solving. This book is a real treasure that will enlighten, entertain, and educate all at the same time. It is a book that you will definitely want to add to your child's or grandchild's bookcase for many enjoyable reading experiences.

Lydia charms me agaib Feb 09, 2009
By Ken Glickman If you haven't read, "Lydia, The Story of How The Ladybug Earned Her Wings," go out and get it immediately. Then read the second book in the series, "Lydia The Ladybug in Paris." You'll get enchanting stories, magical characters and life lessons that are as important now as they were when we were children. Great for children and for adults with a child's heart.

Thank You for Another Great Lydia Book Feb 02, 2009
By Stan Foster Marie Lawrence has done it again!
This second Lydia book uses a delightful style filled with wit and rhyme to tell the story of Lydia the Ladybug's magical trip to Paris as a guest of the King and Queen of France.
Lydia the Ladybug in Paris is once again exquisitely illustrated by Emelia Lawrence, and these colorful and beautiful pictures add another wonderful dimension that helps bring the story to life.
After Lydia suffers an embarrassing "fashion disaster", Lydia's true and caring heart helps her to come back more glorious and profound than ever. In the process, Lydia wins the hearts and admiration of everyone in Paris!
This is a book that should be read by children and adults of all ages. I strongly recommend this book and can only say...."Bring on Lydia's next adventure!"

A Sheer Delight Jan 15, 2009
By Josephine Gross, Ph.D. If you are concerned about raising "conscious kids" and feel a little lost in the plethora of children's books out there, stay tuned to the adventures of Lydia the Ladybug. This sequel to the original version is filled with kindness and delicacy, teaching not just tolerance but joyful celebration of (cultural) diversity. Children will be enchanted by the wittiness of the rhymed prose and the colorful, magic-filled drawings. I just signed up on LydiaTheLadybug.com for updates on Lydia and her friends and look forward to future episodes.
