5Absolutely Enjoyable Reading!!!  Apr 10, 2005
By S. A. Tau "Book enthusiast"
Macfarlane's Ridge by Patricia Deana Wigington is an exciting period novel. It is the story of a young woman who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandmother. After the death of her grandmother, she quits her job at a bookstore and moves back to Haver Springs to take over the Victorian home they shared when she was a girl. The house is full of old trinkets and pieces that others found interests in, so she opened up a shop called Grannies goodies. Little did she know that those trinkets were about to change her life forever.

This book was mesmerizing, exciting, but most of all, very enjoyable to read,, you won't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book immensely. I locked myself in my room with my carafe of coffee, my favorite cup, lit some candles, curled up on my bed with my ton of pillows, and my mink blanket, and refused to come out of this room until I read the entire book!

The Author invites us to Haver Springs, and later onto Macfarlane's Ridge. She makes the reader comfortable with the surroundings, and introduces us to the characters like they were our long lost friends. She adds many twists and turns that piques our interest, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.

I especially liked the way she transitions between the two worlds, not missing a beat, but not in a way that confuses the reader. Just when you thought you had figured out what was going to happen next, the Author surprises us with yet another twist. She kept it informal and very interesting all the way through. A nice touch was the end of the book. I liked the Author's Note, She doesn't just end it, like so many books or even movies do. She gives us a little peak into their futures, and even took the time to do an insert of what was actual and factual. She let us know without us having to do the research, the locations, and parts of history which was truth, and fiction.

This is by far the most enjoyable book I have read for leisure in a very long time.
