Great Book Mar 24, 2009
By S The main character, Emily Black, is a much darker character than the well-written Jane Austen leading females. The villians the young girl must face are very dark and sinister and Emily is cunning, strong and intelligent. To compare to a modern popular author in the Love & Romance literature, Emily Black is more decisive and stronger willed than Bella Swan of Twilight. The 'vampires' Emily must face are the realworld blood thirsty murderers and this gives the novel a edgy, realworld, feeling.
Great Review for MaelStrom to London !! Mar 18, 2009

There is a lot in this book that I liked a lot so I gave it five stars.
Its starts with Emily Black who has to runaway from a bad English Estate. At first it seems like it's just a simply runaway, but the book gets deep and dark in a hurry. It ends up there are amazing reasons why she has to get away.
Also, I liked this book because the character, Brett Cardon was a sharp knife. When he had to he could mix it up and shed a little blood. It was sad that he and Emily had such explosive characters they were always in trouble with each other, and everybody else around them too.
I mostly read science fiction and fantasy stuff, but this book had a ton of twists and turns. I was surprised all the time. It wasn't just the action, but also the boyfriend and girlfriend were real to me. Emily and Brett both loved and hated each other and even the entire world at times.
However, in Brit Lit I read Dickens, Jane Austen and other fiction writers. The book had the same deep flavors as those books, but it was also a ghost story and action adventure.
I don't want to give away the plot because it is so cool to find out all the new details. In the end, I really liked that Brett and Emily can find peace for themselves even if all the world is turned upside down.

MaelStrom to London: Emily Black Saga is one of the sharpest written Victorian historicals I've read. It's fast paced, lots of action with new twists to classic gothic elements - murder, vengeance, secret societies, necromancer mythology.
THIS BOOK HAD ME THE ENTIRE TIME!
The characters are deep. In fact, the female lead, Emily Black, is one of the BEST 15 year old female characters in recent fiction. This girl has tremendous pressures, and she fights and thinks well. She is organized, and capable. And she has to be, because the decisions she makes are life and DEATH.
You like a girl willing to use a pistol? You got it.
You like a girl willing to hold her love back from a roguish boyfriend? You got it.
You like a girl who isn't afraid of her own shadow? You get the point. Its Emily Black.
Despite her abilities, she was a girl I could identify with. She had feelings. Her motivation for who and how she loved were real. I saw me in her actions.
Her counterpart is a really cute farm boy (think Princess Bride "Farm Boy") but he is too reckless to commit her heart into his hands.
This book will keep you fixated. A wild, page turning ride.
I loved it.
For those of you, like me, who read a lot I found TONS of alliterations. Shakespearean ghosts and Juliet troubles. Wuthering Heights tension and Jane Austen social decorum.
What a great book Feb 04, 2009
By Steve A. Overton This book was very well written. The illustrations were very vivid and I enjoyed the adventures the characters went threw. I think this author to be among peers such as Emma Bray and Stephanie Meyer
