5Experience Life to the Fullest  Apr 06, 2009
By Stacey J. Doremus
There are times in our lives where we stand at the crossroads of life scratching our heads wondering where we have been, where we are and where we are going. I found Maria's story to be an inspiring account of an empowered self-confident woman living freely and taking risks to "reach more and better heights." As a mother, I could relate to her unconditional love for her family and desire to protect them from the dangers of the world. Her heart and spirit moved me to tears. Maria's determination to overcome life's adversities, unwavering commitment to family and exhilarating passion for life confirms my belief that life is a journey to the grave with the intention of skidding right into heaven, broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, proclaiming, "Wow! What a ride!"

4Heartfelt  Jan 03, 2007
By Laurie Cohn
I found this book to be a heartfelt journal of a woman's life, lived on her terms and with the support of her family. There is a certain sadness in the writing, along with some confusion as to her relationships with her peers. However, it is also very enlightening and an openly honest portrayal of a woman in today's society.

5Inspirational  Dec 19, 2006
By Kris Glassman
I found this account of a woman's unconventional life and ultimate terminal illness a tour de force of inspiration and insight. The author sets an excellent example of what it means to live your life to the fullest, to face your fears, and to follow your heart, not the herd. I am grateful that she chose to share her story, her advenuresome spirit, and her heartfelt wisdom and advice towards the end of her life. May we all be as generous and brave.
