Makin' Groceries: A New Orleans Tribute

Nicky helps his Maw-Maw at her Cajun & Creole Café during summer vacations. Join them as they shop for groceries all around NOLA! To the French Market, a River-Road produce stand & Schwegmann's GIANT Supermarket! Makin' Groceries is an old expression that the region's residents use for food shopping. The expression derives from the French faire son marché, "to do one's market shopping," faire translating either "to do" or "to make."

5Excellent book!!  Mar 01, 2010

This is a wonderful book that I love to share with family and friends. For everyone in New Orleans, and not.... it helps keep our culture alive. After Katrina, Todd Michael's books help me feel connected to New Orleans and teach my daughter about our home.

4New Orleans Culture  Feb 26, 2010
By Melinda B. Lester
This is a fun book to read with its rhyme and rhythm. It cleverly depicts the uniqueness of the New Orleans dialect. The illustrations and words show the joy through a little boys eyes of spending time with his grandmother, grocery shopping, cooking and eating. It brought back memories for me doing the same thing while growing up in New Orleans. This is a great book for all ages.
