Inspiring story...couldn't put it down! Nov 03, 2009 It has been a long time since I last read a story so inspirational. Mama Moon chronicles the life of a Korean immigrant and her struggles, persistence and determination to provide for her family and help others. Written from the perspective of her daughter, it shares unique insights into the challenges immigrants faced coming to the United States and the incredible determination and work ethic of this woman. Having come from an immigrant family, this story reminded me of the struggles that my family endured and the effort it takes to make it.
A must read!
Enlightening Oct 24, 2009 This book was a wonderful look into the life of a woman who overcame more obstacles that most people ever experience. She refused to accept defeat against all odds. In spite of the many challenges thrown at her, she stayed true to herself and her sense of what was best for her family. Amazing peek into the world of a "foreign" wife brought to America and then abandoned. She really showed immense determination!

Unbelievable/Very Inspiring Sep 11, 2009 I couldn't put the book down. It was hard to believe it was a true story. What an inspirational story both for mother and daughter. The accomplishments of both mother and daughter are beyond inspirational.
The book was well written and beautifully captures the love Ms Gayle had for her mother.
If you are debating reading this book this needs to be added to your Book List, you will not be sorry.

"Mama Moon," like the woman herself, is unforgettably inspirational Jul 06, 2009 How could one person -- a delicate-looking woman -- have withstood and survived (nay, thrived) after having experienced abuse, rejection, abandonment, poverty, hardships, tragedy, and yet still preached gratitude? Whenever I'd feel sorry for myself for any reason, I'd remember Mama Moon's words reminding her daughter (the author) that she was lucky to be:
...living in "this wonderful country," the United States.
...able to receive an education.
...able to read and write.
...have two arms and two legs.
...able to eat anything she wanted, whenever she wanted.
...able to work hard and become whatever she chose to be.
Mama Moon was an inspiration to those who knew her and now to those (like me) who know of her courage and resilience through her daughter's book. Thank you, Susan, for generously and bravely sharing your mother's story.

Inspirational: A Must Read! May 13, 2009 I am so grateful this story was told. It's a testament to both the human spirit and unconditional love between a daughter and mother that is unspoken.
I started reading Mama Moon on a flight and couldn't put it down. I did have to stop a few times to process all the challenges this strong woman had to face in her life time. The choices and decisions that Mama Moon had to make were necessary for her survival but heartbreaking at the same time. I was moved by her perseverance and ability to share with others - she made a difference in so many people's lives without always knowing it. They say what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger and this is certainly the case here. Determination and a strong sense of purpose are key lessons. It also made me realize how much we take from our childhood into the people we become.
Susan Gayle did an amazing job telling this story, which really made me think about how much we take for granted and how we can do anything in life if we have our health. And like her mother, Susan's story is truly inspirational.
