Manhook

'Run away with me.' When spoken by a much younger woman, few men will resist those words. When Bob Lutz abruptly quits his executive post to head an Internet start-up, he begins a harrowing spin into neurosis: he becomes obsessed with his young employee, the nubile Valerie Quinn. His marriage crumbles. Why would a fifty-year-old married man become involved with a twenty-three-year-old? His attitude: why not? 'Run away with me,' she said. Once was all it took.

5Manhook  Oct 19, 2005
By Chris Riley
Can this guy write! His scenes grip you in their sensitivity to the aging male one minute, and have you howling the next. His characters jump off the page with deliscious flaws. The first 20 or so pages I thought it was about business, but it's not; it's really about the folly of men. The ending got me big time. A well paced and brilliantly constructed novel. Highly recommended.

3What a Read!  Sep 29, 2005
By Shelley Bush "Country gal"

Manhook is the story of Bob Lutz, a man spiraling down the path of depression. He quits his comfortable job, without consulting his wife or his therapist, to become a CEO of an Internet company. However, he quickly learns that the company is running out of money. He believes in the company so much that he decides to invest his own retirement funds to keep the company in business, again without talking to his wife or therapist.

Manhook is a tale involving many people other than Bob Lutz. His wife is left in the dark as her marriage continues to unravel. His therapist must battle his own problems and addictions while helping others. Readers will meet many people who work under Bob, including two secretaries. They also meet the conniving Reese who has his own plans for the company.

Manhook is a complex novel written by Ken Ratcliffe. It follows many complicated characters with their own agendas. Readers follow Bob as he makes choices, some good but mostly terrible. They will watch Bob as he loses control and spirals farther and farther from reality as the book continues. The ending will leave readers' jaws hanging in shock.

5Outrageous, fun & unpredictable  Feb 03, 2006
By chip wyser
Ken Ratcliffe combines the best of Carl Hiasson's outrageous, quirky, cartoon-like characters with John Grisham's intrigue and intelligent plot twists in the world of coporate start-ups and the venture capitalists who exploit them. I laughed. I cringed. I couldn't put it down. I hope to see a series in this setting.

5Putting this book down is not an option!  Sep 01, 2005
By J.J.Johnson, Jr.
I wanted to put Manhook down to tend to other pressing matters but I couldn't. This well written and entertaining book captured me in a maze of contemporary business and human conditions. The pressure to perform, high risk, greed, passion, lust, ego, insecurity, deceit and the classic conflict of good versus evil are all reflected in this wonderfully orchestrated story.

Unless you are living under a rock you will relate to many aspects of this book and find yourself saying ... "yea that's how I feel too!"

Buy the book and enjoy. Well done Ken! Can't wait for the movie and the sequel.

5Thought I was back in Silicon Valley...  Jan 12, 2006
By winediva
when I read Manhook. Many times during my 3 day read, I would question, as I worked at Apple also......Who is he talking about?

I agree with the reviewer who said this should be made into a movie and yes, Jack Nicholson should definitely be the main character!

I couldn't put it down and hadn't a clue how it would end. A great read!
