By Gudjon Bergmann Yogi Shanti Desai has written a manual that is true to its word. In this book you will find reasons to meditate, information about the philosophy behind meditation, meditation techniques, lifestyle guidelines for meditators and much, much more. The book is written in a clear and concise manner, it is easy to use and should be a good read for beginners and advanced students alike.
In a world that is increasingly stressful, meditation has become a highly recommended way to relax and decrease many adverse psychological affects a fast paced life can produce. Read this book, choose the meditation technique that fits your personality traits and you are on your way to a more peaceful, healthy and balanced life.

A Brief Review of Yogi Shanti Desai's Meditation Practice Manual Sep 26, 2011
By E. Glazier Meditation Practice Manual was first printed in 1981. While Yogi Shanti Desai's library of spiritual writings has continued to expand over the years, the messages remain constant. This text brings clear and concise direction to persons who wish to answer fundamental questions about life, death, and their own nature as human beings. Like the original yoga sutras, each chapter begins with a characteristically straightforward statement. This is followed by thorough explanation and detailed guidance. The book begins by stating that "The purpose of meditation is to know thyself" and that "Our Self is the true source of happiness." The chapter goes on to discuss the restless nature of the mind and offers guidance for systematically calming the thought process to gradually achieve relaxation, concentration, and ultimately, a deeply felt sense of peace and happiness. The text is practical in nature. Shanti makes clear that yoga is not an escape. The challenges of life persist. One must make a living, interact with others, and accept the limitations of time and the uncertainties of the future. But by working to improve the functioning of the physical body through hatha yoga and breathing, by following the common sense rules that keep us out of trouble and harm's way (the yamas and niyamas), and by achieving a sense of well-being in the present through meditation and through the techniques that lead to increasingly deeper meditation, the universal challenges of life are more readily addressed. Read and absorb the profound guidance offered in Yogi Shanti Desai's Meditation Practice Manual.
An Ex-Nun's view of true meditation as seen in Meditation Practice Manual by Yogi Shanti Desai Aug 17, 2011
By Anne Marie Murphy In the early 1980's, after much study of Religion and Prayer, I still had not experienced meditation or contempltion. I was fearful of the many complicated techiniques that had been presented to me for thirty some years. Yogi Shanti Desai and his book on meditation opened the way for a journey of inexplicable bliss. Little did I know that breathing (Prana) was such a vital part of meditation. The body itself became paramount in my journey inwards. Then I found that there were multiple simple ways to meditate. I learned that Active and Passive Meditation were possible. I experienced my practice of meditation flowing through the actions of my day and strengthening my resilience to stress. I can open this book anywhere anytime and begin to feel the connections of body, mind and spirit in myself and to the universes. The information in this book enabled me to deal with teens who I taught in High School for 27 years. There was much learning with my students and the practice of meditation. meditation for everyone Jul 16, 2008
By E. Fortunato This book is the best I have read on meditation. It includes easy to advanced instruction on "how to meditate" and "why we should meditate". Described in detail are practice techniques for morning and evening meditation, meditation through out the day, the differences between active and passive meditation, the benefits of meditation, and the philosophy behind meditation. In each chapter Yogi Shanti Desai speaks directly to today's modern concerns and lifestyle. He interprets and teaches us how the ancient wisdom of meditation can be used for today's problems. Realization of life goals, stress, anxiety, loneliness, addictions, to name a few examples, are all modern day issues that meditation can affect, reduce and eliminate. By simply remembering to slow down your breath, your stress will be reduced.
