In this book, prophecies from both Old and New Testaments are examined in an attempt to ascertain how they are to be understood, both from the point of view of those who first received them, and from the viewpoint of present-day readers. It is concluded that a lot of what is frequently assumed to be still future, has actually taken place. A good deal of the prophecy included in the Books of Daniel and Revelation can be readily explained as symbolic predictions of the fall of Jerusalem and the Old (Jewish) dispensation under the attack of the Romans in AD 70. However, the more extreme position that all Biblical prophecy relates to this event is rejected. The Second Coming in Judgment and the final overthrow of evil is still future.
