Mindful Nutrition, Back to Basics with TCM: How To Make The Most Of A Whole Foods Diet

For readers who want to improve or reclaim their health, Mindful Nutrition: Back to Basics with TCM by author Leni Hurley is a big step in the right direction. With roots in traditional Chinese medicine, this nutritional guide has useful insights and tips, many of which have been tried and tested over the past three thousand years. Divided into four parts, the author begins with an overview of the mind-body connection and insights on eating habits and stress, then proceeds to the principles of TCM nutrition, seasonal nutrition, and sex- and age-related nutrition. In part two, she gives dietary and lifestyle tips for a number of common health problems such as thrush, sinusitis, arthritis, obesity, insomnia, and infertility. Part three, Western Notes, looks at controversial issues such as dairy products and fish consumption, and in part four she provides about thirty seasonally inspired recipes, including specialty soups, mother-and-baby recipes, rice, beans, and barley water.

Leni Hurley knowledgeably explains the principles of nutrition as they are governed by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This valuable handbook tells you how to identify, manage and prevent health problems through nutrition, exercise and stress-releasing techniques that easily can be put into practice in the West. Although the recipe section is limited to the basics, the excellent appendices can be used along with the cookbooks on your shelf to prepare healthful meals at home. Sound advice is given throughout the book for mothers, the chronically ill and the elderly.
