Mules in the Fast Lane: Going Straight When Life Throws You a Curve...And Other Life Lessons from the Formative Years

A rollicking account of one Southern boy's journey from rural life on the farm to "suburban business" in his parents' Mom and Pop grocery store at the tender age of three, Mules in the Fast Lane is a glimpse into the unexpected ups and downs in the post war Deep South of the '40's and '50's. Chock full of "life lessons from the formative years," it is more than an autobiographical journal or diary of the author's life. Mules in the Fast Lane is a collection of memorable events laden with moral principles that even the most cynical will appreciate. A romp through good times and hard times, it is, at times, funny, at times heartbreaking, but at all times poignantly entertaining. A must read for all generations.

5a book for everyone  Jul 12, 2006
By L. Watts
This book is fabulous. The author uses his own life experiences to share life lessons with the readers. It was hilarious and at times serious. Most of all you could really connect with him in each and every story. I have to say that his adventures and the lessons he has learned from them have impacted my life. I admire him for being able to reach deep within himself and reveal the sad, embarrassing, wonderful, happy, fulfilling times in his life with the world.

5Take a Break  Nov 01, 2006
By Sherry
Shades of Mark Twain and Will Rogers, this author has a real gift for storytelling. Is your world spinning around way too fast? Conveniently brief chapters allow you to grab a few relaxing minutes here and there. If you have more time, curl up with your favorite beverage and be transported back to when life was clean, simple and the people were mostly decent.

Not a self help book but helps relieve stress and jogs your own memories. Got issues? This book may help you bring them up and finally get them out of your system. Very humorous and deeply insightful. The life lessons are well worth learning...or remembering, if you've learned them before. Looking forward to more from this author!

5Mules in the Fast Lane  Mar 09, 2011

The book is a great read. Very entertaining. I grew up in the same small town so most of this is very familiar to me and I am sure adds to my enjoyment. However, the stories are so well written I have found it to be delightful. Anybody who grew up in a small Southern town for sure can relate. Great job.

5Delightful!!  Sep 23, 2008

This book was an absolute delight to read! It was funny, thought provoking, sad...I can't say enough good about it. I look forward to reading more of Mike's works. I hope he doesn't stop here! I am familiar with the towns in Alabama as I lived in Montgomery for over 20 years and enjoyed the 40's and 50's review Mike gave of the area. I'm also wondering if he would sign my book as I am a friend of his from the past. I knew him "when".

5Growing up in the South  Sep 24, 2007
By George Howell
Mike Moody has produced an amusing and interesting down-to-earth retrospective of a boy growing up in the rural South in the decades immediately after World War II. The characters and locations are ones with whom I can easily identify. The life lessons after each chapter are witty and truthful. I read this book in about 24 hours, and loved every page of it. I recommend "Mules In The Fast Lane" to anyone who grew up in the South, especially anyone who needs a boost about their own childhood.
