A book that murders grammar Aug 05, 2006
By Philip H. Dillard
"Greengrub"
This books begs for a proof reader, a computer with Spell Check, or, most of all, a fifth grade grammar teacher. What would have been an interesting locked-room murder premise of a man killed by a cat with curare poison on its claws is pretty much negated by misspellings, grammatical errors, sloppy punctuation, and what seems to be simply careless writing. Murder by Cliche is the second in a series of five books featuring Heimdal Nacht. I sincerely hope that the others in the series are constructed in a more literate fashion. Gunning does create some fun dialogue for his characters and shows the ability to devise a unique plot, but, oh, how I wish he would pay more careful attention to his sentence construction!
