A RICHLY TOLD TALE Mar 19, 2008
By The Old Dame Hana Canon's wonderfully layered and richly told tale of love, loss and life's juicier moments left me wishing I was a friend within her circle of odd ball, off beat, and fascinating juicy crones that populate this tale. She paints her characters with a comforting imperfection that all humanity shares. A fan in the Muddle West

Murder in an Amethyst Haze May 06, 2008

I enjoyed the quirkiness and understand a bit about satire, irony and women of juicy character who are not afraid to be audacious being a crone myself. The book brings you in like a conversation with an old friend and carries through the story with grace and glee. Ms. Cannon introduces these gals like the Crones all around us that we already know. If you have lived long enough you seem to be in those opportune places at those opportune times and this book is one of those finds and a fun reads. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns in Ms. Cannon's style and her adventures in a vocabulary that makes one use the gray matter between their ears and seek the dictionary, too. I look forward to more adventures with the juicy Crones from Ms. Cannon.

Only about 15 pages read so far. What on earth was the designer thinking of! A very light florid typeface that makes the book almost impossible for me to read with my over 60 year old eyes.
Combine the odd typeface with the odd language and I may not be able to finish this one.
Juicy Crones isn't an Oxymoron ! May 15, 2008

No, Juicy Crones isn't an oxymoron! Not in this delightful tale of intrigue and sisterhood by Hana Cannon. Don't miss the opportunity to delve in the ditches and traverse a berm with women you'll recognize and others you'll wish you'd met on the physical plane. When the talented author introduces Shirley, an aging nymphomanical bartender, you know she has the write stuff in her jeans. The evidence is clear; you are embarking on a ribald and tumultuous read. Full disclosure: I flunked fauns & faeries in this incarnation. However, the metaphysical arts, pre-dating "CSI" by several centuries, are the perfect context within which to explore and invoke the necessary elements to reveal elusive answers to contentious questions. I especially applaud the inventive method of weaving excellent dialogue into each chapter. Also, the wicked turns of phrase, hilarious descriptions, and great use of smile-prompting references. When's the last time you teleported back to shake a maraca with Carmen Mirada? In addition to a delicious story and subtext, Murder in an Amethyst Haze provides worthwhile reminders of an abundance of worldly, as well as otherworldly wisdom. Can't wait for the next tale in this series!
Lovin' the Ladies! May 07, 2008
By J. Stephens I thoroughly enjoyed the spunk and quirkiness of the delightful characters in Murder in an Amethyst Haze by Hana Cannon. Spending time with Ms. Cannon's unique crones makes for a fun and entertaining read. If you do not see many of your friends in these wonderful characters, you will soon be adding them to your "mental" circle of amazing acquaintances. Take a well deserved pause and settle in to enjoy the ebb and flow of the Murder in an Amethyst Haze. You will be glad that you did!
