My Story Thanh Nguyen is a compelling story about determination, incredible challenges, and survival by someone who lived it! It was amazing to read of the hardships experienced and the courage displayed by this woman, her family, and friends from the 1950s through the 1970s in Communist-run Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen lived through the execution of her father and many family and financial ups and downs. Finally, she and her future husband were able to escape with others on a small boat and experienced severe sea sickness, lack of food and water, until their rescue by a Dutch ship. The photographs in the book were interesting to see. Her return to Vietnam many years later with some family members gives some closure to the experience. This truly is an adventure story with a happy ending and it provides a thought provoking "read" for the reader.

Thanh is an accomplished seamstress and does beautiful alterations. She met the dressmaking needs of my family for many years. When she sold her business in Owings Mills, Maryland I was saddened to lose her skills, fashion expertise and friendship.
This book tells the story of her life that I never knew. I have met her husband and son, Michael,and now can "connect the dots" of information that I learned by talking with them. For example, her husband told me that he could speak Dutch but I never knew that they lived in the Netherlands on their way to life in America.
I highly recommend this book as an honest story of one woman's coming of age in the middle of the Vietnam War, the very difficult journey to America and how she and her husband accomplished the American Dream.

An amazing story of a very courageous young girl in a country torn apart by a civil war. Every page gives an incredible account of the determination of this little girl as she comes of age and learns to survive and escape even death as she pursues her dream to live in America. For me as part of the generation growing up in America during the Vietnam era this young woman's story has provided one important answer to what we achieved during this time in our history.
This fascinating book should to be read by every child and every adult in America as it tells the story of hope and true dedication and it confirms that by truly working hard and never giving up we can fulfill our dream.

This book gives a first hand account of how someone my age from Vietnam experienced the war, the turmoil, and the efforts to escape and then somehow reunite. It explains the heart aches of family separation and even death. I recommend this book to everyone, young and old.

The book described in details how Thanh survived and accomplished with her bared hands. That's inspiring me great deal. Each chapter of the book tells detailed events throughout her life with cleared pictures and motions. It's a great book to share with your family, friends and children and to let them know how blessed they are.
