My Utmost for Mediocrity: The Backslider's Devotional Handbook

My Utmost for Mediocrity is not your typical devotional. It motivates and inspires readers by presenting spiritual concepts and exhortations in a humorous and satirical manner. (Where C.S. Lewis might meet Oswald Chambers' My Utmost for His Highest) Have you, or someone that you know, become somewhat careless in sanctification efforts and started to backslide a bit? Have you been a Christian for a long time, maybe ‘heard it all already' and could just use a little different kind of motivation to shake things up, to get you more motivated again? This book contains daily ‘devotionals’ that provide tongue-in-cheek excuses and rationalizations for not being everything that you can be, for just settling for a mediocre lifestyle. You may find something similar to your own excuses hidden within its pages. Perhaps it may prompt a positive change in your life or those you may share this book with.

5Powerful Book  May 14, 2009
By Kurt B. Popke
My Utmost for Mediocrity is a powerful book, blending humor and piercing insight into the behavior patterns Christians often slip into which limit their relationship with the Lord. We all like to think that backsliding is just something that happens to us, that we are not deliberately making poor choices in our Christian life. By presenting these shortcomings as intentionally planned strategies, this book highlights for the reader that we actively decide to be less than our full potential. And facing this fact is a major step in correcting the behavior(s) that keep us from building a strong and healthy Christian life.
My Utmost for Mediocrity is funny and I found myself laughing at many of the `testimonials,' but at the same time it was a bit disconcerting, often taking me out of my comfort zone and forcing some sobering self-examination.
And that's a very good thing.

5What's Inside?  Mar 21, 2009
By Fred Popke
My Utmost for Mediocrity is a humorous, tongue-in-cheek devotional that seeks to motivate individuals to pursue the higher spiritual things in life by depicting what life might be like if one merely settled for a mediocre lifestyle.
