5A Definitive History of Admiral Moon  Oct 04, 2006
By Michael David McGuire "Michael David McGuire"
This book has been well researched and well documented... with fascinating tidbits of history culled from the National Archives, through Freedom of Information Act requests and from newly found personal documents from Admiral Moon's children. Jonathan Alter and his editor Daniel Crouch deserve a round of applause for all of their efforts in helping shed light on one of WW II's lost heroes. Of most interest to me are the intriguing new questions raised surrounding Admiral Moon's apparent "suicide" (and what some scholars might construe to be a subsequent cover-up). Admiral Don Pardee Moon was a larger-then-life character... inventor, innovator, leader and patriot... and the full impact of his legacy on America and world history needs to be reexamined and restored to its rightful place. Jonathan Alter makes a courageous and forceful step in that direction. "My Dear Moon" is a good and interesting read... highly recommended.

2More like a large appendix than a stand alone book.  Jul 26, 2010
By Kenneth H. Taylor II
This volume contains a lot of historical items. Personal and military correspondence, various other military and government documents and a lot of mini-biographies of persons having some relation or association with Admiral Moon. What it lacks is any sort of thread or narrative to tie all of these odd bits and pieces together.

Then in Chapter 10 is "The Untold Story" a fictional account of murder by an "Allied Agent". The basis for this story is not at all apparent to me from reading the rest of the book.

Finally there is the (lack of) quality of the printing. It appears to be a photocopy of the output of a cheap dot matrix printer. It is hard to read. About half way through the book, there are no page numbers, the font size decreases by about 50% in mid paragraph. It is now a real chore to read.

Overall I was disappointed by this book.
