Hope for Peace in Discovery of a Human Jesus Mar 29, 2010
By Stephen W. Ricks
For anyone seeking information on the important subject of the Jesus family tomb, Ron Mazur's book is an excellent place to start. This small book focuses on the human drama surrounding the 1980 discovery and 2005 rediscovery of an obscure tomb between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, which may be the factual family tomb of the historical Jesus of the Bible.
The book functions like a program one might buy before entering the arena of the really big game. It gives an overview of the various book and DVD sources and contributes valuable information of its own, history and background, to enable a reader to quickly gain an understanding of the all-important relationships between the controversial sources and their authors.
Beyond its words, the book communicates a sense of the excitement a revelation of such near human incomprehensibility should generate. Under the influence of this excitement Mr. Mazur begins by sharing his vision for construction of a proper memorial to mark in time and place this milestone in human history.
This book does not waste words but thrusts its readers into the depths of the controversy surrounding the discovery. The book ends with the author's thoughts on the power of the discovery to change the shape of modern religion. If the truth is here, long buried in this obscure tomb, as the formerly skeptical author clearly believes it is, it just may be the missing piece of truth that, taken seriously, could serve to unify Jewish and Christian truth and lead us into a new understanding and peace. Truth has that power, every part being congruent with every other part.
