Nikita's Journey: A Story of Loss and Hope

Follow Nikita the dragon as she goes through the stages of grief; Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and finally Acceptance – leading to healing over the loss of a precious family heirloom. This delightful story is both captivating and therapeutic – helping children deal with any kind of loss; such as death of a family member or friend, divorce, moving away, death of a pet, or loss/destruction of special items. This unique book, created by two women with their own compelling stories, includes beautiful illustrations and a reproducible journal, encouraging children to work alongside Nikita on their way to acceptance and healing. Nikita’s Journey is appropriate for individuals, professional school counselors, grief counselors, and child/family therapists. Though it is written for a primary school reading level, children of all ages can benefit from the healing and nurturing this story brings to its readers.

4colorful children's book on coping with loss and grief  Apr 15, 2009
By M. M. TROUT "Mama Duke"
I think this book is helpful in opening up discussion with children about grief and loss. Whether it is the loss of a pet, family member, or an item that they are emotionally attached to. It is presented so that children of various ages can relate to the pictures and the text without feeling that they are "being talked" at or "lectured to" This book is appropriate for children from elementary school through middle or junior high school. I have gotten this book for several of my young family members who have never suffered a loss, so that they can be more sensitive and mindful of others that are grieving.

5This is a wonderful book for children as well as adults  Jun 09, 2009
By B. Romero "Selina"
I loved Nakita's Journey.
I think this is an excellent book to help children (or anyone) learn to express themselves in a time of loss.
I would really recommend this book a coping tool and should be on every child's bookshelf.
The illustrations are beautifully drawn, bright and vibrant.
