Family Saga Apr 20, 2009
By P. Isomura "None Wasted, None Spared" is the story of a family--not a famous family, but a family that lived through momentous times. It takes place in Seattle during the 1910's, 20's, and 30's, during the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression that followed. I enjoy stories about ordinary people, because everyone has a story to tell. We can't all be presidents or movie stars or famous athletes. Most of us live our lives reacting to and coping with events transpiring around us. Thus it was with the Steadmans, a family that survived by ingenuity, reliance on friends, and the optimism of its patriarch, Phillip, who always believed that things would eventually get better for his family. The author creates a dark and moody look at an era in our history through the eyes of real people muddling through and enduring hardships together and in tact. There is an element of hope at the end of the book that counterbalances its dark tone and leaves the reader with hope for the future of this family. The book held my interest throughout, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this style of fiction.
None Wasted None spared Jan 15, 2009
By Gene L. Piccirilli None wasted none spared is a magnificent work that chronicles the lives of a family struggling to survive the rigors of the great depression. The author (Brian Pelton) pens his opus in a classical voice reminiscent of past greats.
Great view of the Great Depression Jan 01, 2009
By George Carlin
"Book Collector"
Brian has captured a view of the Great Depression that actually made me feel like I had lived through it. He has an amazing grasp of what happened back then, the lifestyles of those affected, and even the way people thought. I was thoroughly enthralled with the book and I hope he writes more.
