In some respects good in other ways fair Nov 12, 2009 There are a lot of things about this book that I like. She maintains a good pace and answers back to astrological debunkers, but the main thing that is appealing is her extremely clear presentation of the material. She is able to present astrology in a way that clearly reflects the subjects deep philosophical roots. Her inclusion of Jung is exactly what karmic astrology needs because it reflects the amount of thought that does go into esoteric astrology.
The title of this book is a little misleading. The actual descriptions of the nodes does not begin until page 165. Chapters 4-9 are actually entirely on the outer planets. The chapters, in my opinion, are worth reading, but they don't actually talk entirely about the nodes. You basically have to figure out what happens if one of the outer planets conjuncts or aspects a node because this book doesn't explain that in any detail. I agree with one of the other comments; the book is slightly off topic at times.
What is a little bit annoying is her allotting of an entire chapter to discuss her own personal relationship, and frankly, her reflection is on the gooey-mushy-dependent side. It was a real turn off for me and she rather blatantly flaunts her own dependency (unrequited emotional dependency is not that good) on what honestly sounds like an unhappy marriage. By her own description, it sounds like her needs were not really met in her own marriage and she attempts to find an astrological explanation for the lacking so that she does not really have to face up to her husband's indifference to her. It is more information than needed to be included in the book; we do not really need to know this about her.
I am not sure that this is type of nodal astrology is always useful. She looks at nodes heavily from the perspective of past life failings rather than an area of karmic importance. This approach may not be entirely helpful if you are de-legitimizing an area of someone's life so that you can give them therapy. If people do not feel think their south node is a problem, I am not sure if we should be talking them into the belief; especially, if their talents are there. My personal observation of this kind of astrology is that people find it extremely insulting. South Node is a lot like a second Sun sign, but none of these writers acknowledge that. Instead they attempt to coach people out of what they really feel that they are. I had an Aquarius SN boyfriend who treated everyone impersonally and is still doing that. I frustrated myself a long time expecting him to be something other than what he was (Leo). If I was just willing to accept him as he was my life would have been easier. Likewise, my best friend dislikes my Sag SN; he doesn't accept me at all and it makes his life a lot harder. Find more complimentary partners and stop waiting for magic to happen; it doesn't. It just makes people extremely upset when they find out that you don't really accept them.

Interesting subject Sep 16, 2009 Interesting subject well written. For me, personally a little too much personal reflection and information that did not illuminate the subject.

The Nodes Know Jul 31, 2009 As a newcomer to astrology I appreciated the careful and thoughtful way that Elizabeth Spring led me into a foreign world and there to reconnect me with what has been lost largely today: our connection to the planets, to the cosmos and to the ancient rhythm of the motions of the spheres.
Dante gave us an entire cosmology in the 14th. century; now Elizabeth retrieves for the modern soul that sense of cosmogonic relationships that dissolve some of our feelings of alienation and recovers the self as part of the cosmos.
Anyone looking for a primer to the planets will enjoy her warm, engaging style and will, I sense, become part of what she cites as America's purchase of "approximately 20 million books on astrology" despite its provability. The proof, rather, is in the purchase. Buy her book and enter the cosmos with a superb guide: Elizabeth!

an exceptional contribution to astrology Jun 17, 2009 I highly recommend this book as essential reading to both students of astrology and professional astrologers. There is a wealth and breadth of information offered that includes more than the title suggests on the Moon's nodes. Elizabeth Spring's writing style is conversational, informative, artistic, and provocative, a rare combination. She has brilliantly woven a professional and deeply personal literary work that I hope launches her recognition as one of the more prominent astrologers and therapists of our time. Treat yourself to an amazing journey into your inner psyche.

Soul Purpose and Unconcealing the Nodes Jun 17, 2009 I "devoured" this book over the weekend. It's a compelling read that weaves mythic/astrological principals with personal examples from the author that put a real face to her illustrations and assertions. This is NOT just a reference book, although it could serve that function for those not astrologically minded, but I assure you this is not the type of book where only 10% of the book pertains to you, there is plenty here to incorporated into your own understanding of self, other and astrology.
Elizabeth shares her own journey, highlighting astrological aspects, transits and principles to illustrate how the reader might use those same tools to gather insight and understanding. I was particularly inspired by the authors own candor; her treatment of her own relationship did at times read like a great "romance novel" in the best sense of the phrase. Elizabeth Spring is obviously no stranger to the soulful wild woman as it's certainly obvious she's fought the good fight. She possesses a great style of writing that "snubs" convention and decorum and "scribes to the heart" of the matter. Ah, Jungian indeed.
This books is great for a reader looking for some direction, to that end it serves its function well. But I found the gold of this book is that it serves as a "how to" unravel the mystery of purpose and ITS' place in your family lineage.
Just this evening I ran my parents charts and was able to CLEARLY & EMPIRICALLY trace the lineage of my own Nodes to both my parents. Gave me goosebumps and made present the sorrowful consequences of the unlived life. I was clearly able to decipher a thread, a link to my parents and their soul purpose. I feel blessed and bound to bring closure to the karmic line. How better to "honor thy father and thy mother". Thanks Liz.
