Must Have for Hawaiian Vacation!!! Sep 01, 2010
By Sean Metzger This guidebook was incredibly perfect for my families vacation in Oahu. The author has done a spectacular job composing this guidebook that covers every aspect of the north shore. We found amazing places to dine, have a Mai Tai ,and go to the beach with the whole family. While we weren't doing one of the numerous fun activities suggested in the guidebook, I was actually very interested in the history featured in the book. It features the great stories behind famous north shore places, such as waimea, matsumotos, pipeline and beyond. This book was also greatly appreciated by the kids. They not only loved the food recommendations, finding the choices delicious, but found the surf reviews great and expertise. This book was really valuable, however, by telling us about the little known queen lilioukalani annual church luau. We got to have a great taste of island cuisine, such as kilua pig, haupia, poke and poi as well as listening to the faboulous singer Amy Hanaiali'i live. All for under $70 for four! less then the ticket for one to a Waikiki luau all thanks to this amazing, comprehensive guide to the North Shore. This guide book is amazing and a must have for anyone who is going to Oahu.

Not bad for a Hoale. May 12, 2010
By Richard Schilling
"RLSworld"
This review is more written to the author but can be utilized by potential buyers to make their choices. The book as a whole is very informative and Patricia has compiled alot of data over her 20 years of living in the islands. I too lived there a long time ago(1950s-60s)finally moved in 1966 to the mainland. I like the information and history of the islands and the people. Everything and every place is exactly as she says it is and if I were to write this book I would have done the same except for the continual use of the hawaiian word HOALE its meaning when I was living on the island was akin to the "N" word used only toward the white man. It was not an expression of affection. Today it still remains but not as affluent as it once was. If there is a statement to be made here I'd like to know what it might be? If we are being blamed because the hawaiian people fell prey to the western worlds diseases and influences it was the Europeans (Britain)who initiated that not the Americans or even our generation. So are we supposed to feel guilty about something we had nothing to do with. It would be like saying that everyone is guilty of the murder of Jesus Christ even though the jews were the ones to kill him (mainly the religious leaders). So in conclusion I will say that this book is informative and the directions are acurate, the seggustions for beaches, resturants and other points of interest can be very helpful, but please don't try to make me feel guilty because I'm a Haole ( white/caucasian)its not the loving thing to do especially in the land of Aloha which means Love, Welcome, Hello and good-bye. Lets all get along especially when on vacation on American soil.
