Something to think about. Oct 26, 2009

When I saw `Obama, In his Words: pre-election' I hoped to find out what he was thinking and saying before he started running for president. However, the book appears to be a collection of statements made during his campaign speeches. There are many good thoughts on these pages. The words talk to things that people want to hear. However, that is the nature of campaign speeches they tell you what you want to hear and not necessarily what the individual really believes and acts upon. I would have preferred to have heard about what he was saying before he was trying to make everybody happy.
This book gives a good sample of the statements made during his campaign. It remains to be seen as to how much of what he said during his campaign he follows through with during his presidency. The first quote in the book `a-good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.' is a good example. Most of the legislation in his first 9 months of office does not fit that quote. Most of the legislation so far has people are still trying to figure out what the legislation actually says or does months after it has been passed.
Tuchy Palmieri has done a good job of grouping the various statements into categories so we can easily find out what Obama has stated in a specific area. In general the book is a good reminder of what the president has said he is in favor of while he was trying to get votes. It give us a place to start evaluating how well he is implementing those words while president so we can see if we should trust him in the future.
Great Obama insight Jan 16, 2011
By Cindy U. I must admit that I have always been a little unbelieving of Obama. After reading this book I have changed my mind. If you are looking for a one stop place to learn about our president than this is the book you must read. Palmieri's book of quotes hits on every issue the president has ever spoken about. I understood alot more about his reasonings for certain actions after reading this book. A real eye opener.

Obama in a nutshell Jan 11, 2011
By ace717 "Obama, In His Own Words: Pre-Election" is a compilation of quotes from our 42nd president on various issues. Palmieri has organized these quotes by subject allowing you to sift through and focus on issues that are of importance to the individual. I was surprised by what he had to say on many issues that I thought I thoroughly understand his stance on. The book overall was very enlightening on our president allowing the reader to further understand him and on another level. I enjoyed the light hearted section of bloopers our president made showing that even he is not perfect. This book is a quick way for the reader to learn more about Obama and his opinions on several different subjects.

"Obama, In His Own Words: Pre-Election" is an interesting book full of quotations. Palmieri does an excellent job compiling quotes to help the reader better know our President and his opinions on a wide variety of topics. Many of the quote are about politics and most come from his campaign speeches. Palmieri helps sum up our President with these quotes, and I must admit that I learned a lot that I didn't know about him. What I really liked about the book was the more personal quotations that are included. I enjoyed reading about his family and his opinions on family. Anyone looking to learn more about Brack Obama without having to put in lots of research should pick up this very interesting, informative book.
